i just got my first humidor, and i'm finding it quite hard to calibrate the hygrometer. I have the one it came with and then even tried an old one i had, both of which seem to be way off. So i was just wondering how well are the digital hygrometers and are they worth it.

    any help would be appreciated

Digital HMs are great. I trust you tried to calibrate the other ones with the salt and a little water in a sealed jar and came up way off. The little cheapies that come with most humidors don't work or are basically worthless. I have seen little digital ones for as low as 19 bucks. If you shop around you can probably get one cheaper. I have seen them no bigger than a cigar and as large as the one that I use which is a Radio Shack wireless Catalog Number 63-1030.

    Good luck and happy smoking.

Thanks, i just found a site ordered one for 17.99 with free shipping, so hopefully it'll help me keep the humidor stable

A hint to help keep it stable is to have it about 75% full at all times. Cigars are hygroscopic by nature and although the cedar lining of the humidor acts as a reserve to allow the humidor to recoup after being opened the cigars themselves also act this way, so the more cigars in the humidor the less of a shock it is to the environment when it is opened. At least that is how I understand it.

I too have a digital one, less than 20.00, it works excellent.

Check that date. Don't think you're going to get a response.

"You can probably get one from Walmart", says the ghost of that guy.
The powers that be might take it all away

Yes ,I got one from the local tender box. It holds like 50 sticks, but my newbie sampler pack that Will hooked me up with almost filled it up.
