Have you tried to light it...you know, make flame come out of it? If you have tried, and you did indeed make fire with it, my expert opinion would say, yes, it is a lighter.

If you bought it from Vito, Carmine, Nunzio or Dom, for cheap money, it's a fake. If you bought it from an authorized dealer, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Doc.
Do draft dodgers have reunions? And if so what do they talk about?

Well, there appear to be stains on the case velvet. So I would assume it is used/second hand. If you picked it up cheap and it works; then who cares. If you paid some coin for it, then it is a little late to be worrying about that now. If you didn't trust your source, why did you buy it?
Unless you are trying to make a nice sized profit quickly; in which case I say "If you can't tell if it is legit, then you shouldn't be trying to flip it".

What if I wanted to sell you a shoebox full of crap for $250? I could probably let it go for $200, just because it's you.
Might I inquire why you would have any interest (other than appeasing your friend) in purchasing this item? If it's to gain the favor of a friend, I can understand (we can spot our own) - I'd give him the money for sure. Forget authenticity - someone to hang out with is much more important.
I would hope your "friend" wouldn't knowingly sell you a fake.
