Me, I cut them in half the long way and glue the one half back onto the cigars with a hot glue gun and some epoxy. I find the epoxy gives them a nice bite.

I tested top or bottom a while ago. Top for ISOM's. Bottom for catalogue smokes. Sideways for Rocky Patel.
