A sure way to leave your best cigars for someone else to smoke. Perhaps the "bar" is too high for celebration? For me, any day above the ground, with the people I love, is special enough for the best cigar I have!!

    Well put.

Yes, well put. It was a really bad year though, to the point where I'd feel I didn't 'deserve' a nice stick. Plus I don't have many super premiums, so I save them to make occasions extra special. Like I said, what you are doing and who you are with can make the experience. You can have a memorable smoke with an average stick experiencing a great moment, but I don't think a great stick can elevate a terrible moment.

That being said, I admire your optimism. I think I'll light up an Opus this afternoon.

Cheers, to another day above ground.

Well, I think I can relate rather well to a shitty 2011; 2012 isn't exactly looking like a "banner year" either. What I've come to learn is that all we have is the here and the now....nothing else is guaranteed. A fantastic stick at the end of the day does indeed, for me, elevate a shitty situation to at a minimum a bearable situation.

I opened my coolidor and saw the Padron 1964 you gave me and thought it would be fitting.

....and wow! Such a well balanced, smooth stick, and with no 'break in' period. Amazing from start to finish. My first Padron and won't be my last. Thanks again for the stick and the inspiring words. I'll try not to deprive myself this year. hehe

What? You must have me confused with another brother on the board......giving away padron's just doesn't sound like me. Nice choice though!!

A great cigar can absolutely save an otherwise shitty day. Especially when paired with a good stiff drink. :)

I have found that just having a great cigar in my humidor is occasion enough to smoke it. I bought 6 Opus X double coronas in January to "age". I had 1 left by mid February.

No idea at this point what my best of 2011 was but I can say 100% that the best cigar I have had and will have in 2012 is the La Gloria Serie R for my daughter's birth.

The one I smoked with my new son-in-law at the wedding. Turned him green. I might have ruined his night.

That. Is. Awesome. I'm going to have to remember that in 20 years.
