Thread: Humidor Humidity

  1. Default Humidor Humidity

Im new to owning a humidor (125 count). I have seasoned it calibrated both the analog and digital hydrometer. My isssue is I cant keep the humidity below 75%. I have no cigars in it yet. Will adding cigars drop it below 70%? If not what can I do.
    Thanks

If it's truly out of whack, and not your hydrometers, adding heartfelt (or equivalent) beads to your humidor will absorb the extra moisture. Cigars may absorb some, but they will acclimate, and you don't want them that humid.

I would add some dry 65% beads and get a stable level below 70% before adding cigars. You could go ahead and just add the cigars and yes they will help in bringing down the humidity but you'll risk wrapper damage.

What type of humidifier are you using?

The one it came with.. So it would be just with the green foam in it.

smoking cigars that have been stored at 75% is not going to be pleasant.

Get rid of the crappy foam that comes with humi's and get some beads or kitty litter.

I recommend 65%. 70% has always been too wet for me - 65% is very safe and your cigars will smoke great right out of the box. I keep a lot of CC's and most of them are happier even lower, but 65% works.

I use HCM beads - if you want literally zero maintenance on beads...they are the way to go.
