Thread: New here, question about cigars!

  1. Default New here, question about cigars!

    Hello,

I've bought a cigar as a joke for a friend of mine and he invited me to partake. After I smoked it I realized I think there might be something to it and now a couple of cigars later I find myself going to this website to learn more.

I've purchased several cigars from the smoke shop near me - I was sold a cheap one (Some romeo and juliette one), and expensive and mild one (Dunhill cabarera) and an expensive and bold-flavored one - can't quite remember the name; it was darker and a bit heavier.

I'm just such a colossal newbie - from failing to light the cigar evenly the first time to knowing what to look out for in flavor and texture and such. The stuff I found while googling the subject was a bit disappointing and superficial so I imagine the true aficionados could pour out their opinions in this thread. It's a forum for cigar lovers, clearly the best source for this sort of information, right?

What are some of your favorite cigars (which I could either purchase or order) and what should I be looking for in each cigar I smoke?

    Thanks :)

    Risk:

    Welcome from central Oregon.

    Aficionados. Yes, that's us.

We're enthusiasts, at best. The important thing with this hobby is that you discover what cigars you enjoy on your own. We can make suggestions (where do I begin? Look to the reviews. SEARCH, just poke around the board and read some threads), but ultimately, you'll have to do your own research.

Sign up for the newbie sampler thread in the Exchange section of the forum - there an experienced member will provide you with a sampler far better than anything any online store would be able to get you, and they're real cigars. That's where I'd start. Well, either there, or with a Padron 4000 maduro.

Which one of the cigars did you like best? That would help with the recommendation process.
