Thread: Greetings from Japan

  1. Default Greetings from Japan

    Hey guys,

I'm active duty military stationed in Okinawa Japan, a little island in the middle of nowhere.
As far as an intro for me, I've always been into cigars, ever since I was a little kid, I have good memories of exploring the local smoke shops walk in humidor, cant really explain it. I only recently really got into cigars, but its been a very quick and expensive path into a hobby, still not as much as rifle building, but definitely not cheap. Anyways, everything I have so far has been mail ordered, mainly through CI. I currently am rocking a 300 count humi sitting solid at 71-70ish RH,

I think I have a decent start of a collection. There really isn't much of a cigar culture in Japan, at least not in Okinawa, they all really stick to cigarettes. Sort of a downer, seeing as how Japan doesnt have any beef with Cuba, I was hoping to get some nice cuban smokes, but the only ones I have seen are all about 30 dollars and up, and honestly look fake, they are all sold out of those crappy glass case humi's that you see at head shops in the states, not too impressed really.

My current go to's are some RP vintage 1990 or 92, and for some reason lately the CAO box pressed Italias, they just consistently deliver! I am pretty excited though, I got a box worth of some Macanudo vintage 97s as well as some My Fathers resting right now, I figure I'll give them a couple of months to mature, its tough though, they are some beautiful looking/smelling smokes.

Anyways, here are some pictures of what I am working with

    The humidor,

Well, thats about it, I'm pretty new to cigar world, but have definitely gotten some really good smokes from the recommendations I've read from here.

    Welcome.

Looks like you're off to a running start.

You got the non-Cubans pretty much covered there, except I don't see my favorite - the Padrons.

I've had my share of the NC's, and imho the only ones that will stand up to the Cubans are Padrons and Nubs. My 2 cents.

Hi and welcome to the board from Alberta, Canada.

Do a google search for "Swiss Cuban Cigars". If I'm not mistaken that should lead to a website that can be trusted to sell the real thing at a decent price. I don't know if they'll ship to Japan but you could email them and ask.

Hey guys thanks for the welcome. As far as the padrons go, I smoked my last 1926 a few days ago. I'd Like to jump on a box but at about 400 dollars I really need to think about it. Still though I might just
Get a 5'er or two to hold me over for the moment

Man, I should have never looked at that swiss cigar link, I really want some behikes but at 600 a box I don't know if I could do it or not, there are some cheaper options out there... I'm still undecided on Nubs, honestly I just bought the 10 pack sampler because a good friend of mine was raving about them, honestly I am used to smoking larger cigars, usually 6X60, so the size of it really doesn't get to me. They really look like someone just cut a great looking cigar in two... But then again I haven't tried one yet so the opinion isn't really worth much. They just need another couple of months of resting and then I'll see what they are all about.

Welcome from Germany. The SOFA there doesn't prohibit you from having cigars sent via APO?
