Thread: Noob here..

  1. Default Noob here..

Hey guys. I'm fairly new to the whole smokers thing. Been smoking cigars for the last 3-4 years. But I don't know much. I always been a fan of Acid Cigars. But slowly been exploring other brands.

Recently found a nice cigar shop here on the Border of Mexico (to much surprise) so I'll be able to go pick up singles a bit more often.

My father got me a humidor for my birthday turning 26! (brother kept ours when we lived together). He is going from cigs to cigars so we're starting to trade cigars and learn together.

I know cigars and scotch/wine tend to go together.. Thankfully my wifey is exploring scotch (which I enjoy) so hope there is a little liquor talk thrown around here to pair with. I'm slowly getting her into enjoying cigars too. But it's not easy lol.

    Anywho, hope to learn!

    Thanks

    Welcome from Bitterville

    That's a funny screen name.

Also, since you claim to be here to learn: Get those Acids segregated from the other cigars. Especially the Padrons...

Thanks! Actually those Padrons are my fathers favorites right now. I kinda like em too.

As for the screen name.. My bank is located in Colorado. I'm 3 miles north of the Mexico border where ID theft is very common (along with money laundering) so if I tend to spend more than $150 my banks decline my purchase until I call to confirm I'm spending money at X for Y amount. PITA.

But I'd also like to add, I also currently looking into smoking pipes. I like the art of a pipe and tabaco blends. I have a pipe and filters. Need to get back I to it again.

    Hi and welcome form SC.

Like Will said separate the acids from your normal cigars.
Every now and then i smoke a java or a isla del sol but i keep them in a separate humidor so the infused flavor don't mix with normal cigars.

Ops i forgot that humidification block you have is way to big for your humidor.
If you keep using that you will want to keep a eye on the humidity.

Welcome from MT, and I don't know if you heard, but you need to seperate your Acid's from your non "infused" cigars. In fact, you should pony up for another humidor, or at the very least a tupperware. Soon, all of your Padron are going to taste like your Acid.

The little cedar divider isn't gonna get it done.

Welcome from Ottawa, Canada, where the lone Acid is kept in an old cigar tube, wrapped in plastic wrap, in a zip-lock, in a portable humidor, in a box, in the basement.

    Welcome from central Oregon.

While some enjoy scotch with their cigars, I wouldn't imagine your ordinary glass of wine would pair with a cigar. I enjoy port with cigars, at times, but not a normal white or red. Just my personal preference.

Keep your pipe tobacco separate from your cigars as well.

Echoing everyone else's advice - keep your Acids away from those Padrons.

I, too, echo the sentiment you should keep Acid's separate from the Padron. My suggestion, though, is to bury the Acid's about six foot deep in the back yard...

    Ha!

The only good thing about Acid cigars is the small percentage of people who make them a starting point.

    Thanks guys!!

I take it most of y'all don't like acid? Lol I know there are much betters out there. But the same time, I like to enjoy my $5-10 dollar bills so although I may (sounds like I am) starting out bottom of the bucket I at least want to enjoy my smokes while trying to find my path with singles at the local shop.

We are currently in the process of moving so money is tight. They finally opened up the new apartments just built across from my office so a 2nd humidor will have to wait a few months. Regardless that Padrons be smoked within the next two/three weeks when my pops comes down to visit again.

Heads up I like sweets, espresso and nothing tooo harsh. Remember I'm 26 and I still need a splash of coke every now am then with my whiskey ;)

You don't have to spend more than $5 for an enjoyable cigar.

    Amen to that.

And you don't need to spend more than $3 for a Tupperware to hold cigars. Do a search for coolerdor on the board and you'll find nice step by step instructions for setting up a cheap cigar segregation chamber.

...you do have to spend more than $5 if you want a decent Scotch - even at the low end.

Yep hate Acids but the point really is that it is an aromatic cigar that will soon impart in"s flavoring to every cigar in your humidor. They need separate storage to prevent this.

The kitten is Archer. He's a pimp. Keeps the wifey in check.

I like the flowers my girl wears. Haha you know.. One thing I stood by is I like to enjoy my drink. If its mixed, oh well. I enjoy it while still getting the good feeling you'd get if drank straight.

Same goes for cigars (for me). I'll admit I'm new and HORRIBLE with names. But I'm slowly exploring. Nothing wrong with enjoying your cigars you know you like while you explore for new ones to replace the starters.

    It's all a learning experience.
