My favorite of the trio...this was sad news for sure. Sad to hear about Donald "Duck" Dunn also.

It sounds bad, but when I heard this, I took the rest of the day off of work. I was pretty upset.

Nope, I walked around in a damn daze all day.

I listened to b-boys the rest of that day. My buddy Mike kept texting me lyrics that day too.

A true loss to music. I've been listening to the Beastie Boys in respect, for the last couple of days.

It's weird how the death of someone you never met can impact you. Like most of you, I grew up with the Beastie Boys.

I remember when I was 8 or 9 years old and my "cool" older neighbor played License to Ill(on a cassette boom box) while he taught me how to do an Ollie on a skate board. I must have rewound that tape to hear "Girls" about 20 times in row. I remember Mike(my neighbor) telling me to stop doing that and he ordered me to flip the tape so he could hear "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" and "Brass Monkey." I was hooked. I saw them live a few times and I'm grateful to have been able to.

Even stranger, I just found out about MCA last night. I was watching "Fringe" from 2 weeks ago that I had recorded on my DVR and it was on a commercial segment for the 11 o'clock news. I was so shocked that I forgot I was watching a recording from 2 weeks ago and posted this thread thinking that he had just passed yesterday. It's fucking weird that no one at work or any of my friends mentioned it. Apparently my wife knew; she didn't say anything about it to me either.

Cool memory about the skate board and "Girls". Two buddies and myself did a lip sync contest in high school to "Paul Revere". We were terrible!

Also, I remember laughing so hard while smoking in the boys room...(I know, different band)...a friend of mine held his cassette up to the mirror and showed us what "3MTA3" really was on the tail of the plane.

Haha those are some great memories, thanks for posting them! I have a few: I remember driving around with my brother in his Z car after he got his license, blasting License to Ill with the windows down. The album had been out for years but we still got discerning looks from the old folks in our small town. We thought we were hot shit, lemme tell ya. I remember having Check Your Head in my walkman so much the lettering wore off and how excited I was finding a used copy of Ill Communication on cd in a pawn shop for $2. I was floored! I had always regretted missing the free show they did at SXSW a few years back, and now I really do.

Here are a few clips I posted on my DJ page after he passed...they're pretty good, worth posting here in case some haven't seen these or want to see 'em again.

    This one's hilarious...

Years later, they mention that same interview with Joan...

License to Ill was the second cassette tape I stole from my older sister. Van Halen 1984 was the first. My second choice was much better in hindsight.
