Default New member checking in from the middle of the ocean!

Good morning all, new member on the forum here, just checking in to say hello!

A little about myself, my name is Chris, I am from California, and have recently taken up cigar smoking. I have been a pipe smoker for 8+ years, so not new to tobacco products or new to smoking, just new to cigars. Im in the Navy and left for deployment last week, and my wife sent me off with a travel humidor full of smokes to kick off deployment. That got me thinking, heck this is something I could really get into! I really appreciate fine tobacco products, whatever they may be, and enjoy smoking. Cigars have a new and different flavor to me, a nice change from the pipes I smoke every day

So, i'll be popping in here and there, lurking and reading, asking the occasional question. If you would like to know anything more, please feel free to ask! I am excited to begin a new hobby here in the world of cigars.

The ship listed as his "location" - DDG 86 - USS Shoup - made famous by its appearance in the Transformers movie.

Im surprised you know that! We were only in it for a few seconds, jeez... either you are a wizard or you really know your movies, either way I am impressed

We were also in that new "battleship" movie for a few minutes too.

I avoided it and you should not have admitted being in the Battleship movie - it tarnishes your reputation...

Haha, I know, such a terrible movie... but hey, its not like we asked to be in it, they asked us. Fortunatly none of our sailors were in it... just our ship. All the sailors in Transformers were really us however. Its weird, that one had no props or anything... All just CG so they just had our crew pretend and filled it all in ha.

    Welcome!

    That's one bad-a$$ Destroyer you're on.

Battleships are old, out-dated relics, Destroyers on the other hand are the modern Navy equipped and armed various ways to kick some butt. Way to go apostle.

Sometimes I do miss it, hated the twelve hour work days when on station but sure miss the guys and gals I worked with.

I feel it. We work some crazy long hours sometimes, I will never miss that... But the environment and the people I work alongside is just outstanding most of the time. Im starting to consider re-enlistment but we will see how I feel when that time comes next year.
