Average Box Size.

I realized the other day that If I were to order a box of Cigars and have them sent to my house that

1. they won't fit in the mailbox, obviously.

and

2. I don't have much of an awning or anything so the box would not be protected from the elements before I arrive home.

So I looked into getting a post office box for cigar orders and to use as an address for important letters, since I could get the mail earlier from there than it arrives at my house.

I know some companies will not even ship to a PO Box because :

1. they do not know how big your Box will be.
2. Usually they ship by UPS who I don't think will deliver to PO Boxes

Better check with the company you usually order through to make sure that they will ship to your PO Box. Also, the size of the box of cigars all depends on what type of cigars you order (Churchill, Corona, etc.).

As for the cigars being out in the elements, I am not sure what time you get home from work, but for me, I get home around 5pm and our UPS guy usually delivers around 3:30-4:00pm, so the cigars are only outside for a couple hours max. They have been inside the UPS trucks for a couple days, I don't think a couple extra hours will make a diffrence.

Every cigar box is designed independently to hold the cigars tight and secure and there are a wide range of cigar sizes and shape therefore there are a huge variety of box sizes. Also some manufacturers use flat, wide boxes stacking two high and 12-13 across, and others use shoe-box like boxes maybe four or five across and four or five deep. So basically you will end up getting a note in your PO box saying come to the counter to pick up the box.

That being said, mailboxes get pretty hot anyway so it probably would make a difference if the box fit in the mailbox or if it was left at your door.

The benefit of a PO box is that post offices are air conditioned.

Don't go with the P.O. box for hte reasons mentioned above. Any chance you can get deliveries at work . I do and it works great.

Don't know if this would work for you, but I believe you can have the post office hold all of your pkgs and just deliver you a slip stating it's at the PO.

I believe the call service costs more than a PO Box, not sure though. But if I get one size and keep getting packages that won't fit they will eventually force me to either get a larger box or to use the call service. Hmm...

Any cigars from a reputable dealer should be shipped water resistant inside of a plastic bag of some sort, plus the cello wrapper. They should be safe from anything except theft or a flood. You should do what I do. Simply have them shipped to your work address!

Everytime I order a box of cigars, the box they come in is a different size. Don't bother with a post office box. Just have them delivered to your house because most internet sellers use UPS and UPS WILL NOT ship to a post office box.
