Secondly, let's look at your figures.

-Netflix "10, 20, 30, 50 a month" - Hmmm. I only pay $7.99 for all the digital streaming I want. If I wanted DVD's, I would pay an additional $7.99. But I choose not to. Not because I hate Netflix, but because I personally would not benefit from the additional service.

-Internet Access: "50 - 125 a month" - My internet service is a set price. If yours fluctuates that much, you should look for another provider. Oh, and I pay a fair amount for my service. Not because I love the company, but it is a service I see value in.

-Microsoft wants $5 a month to watch Netflix - C'mon now, this is not true. First off, an XBox Live Gold membership is $4.16 per month. And, you get a whole lot more than just Netflix. Much more, and much better than Playstation Network. Here's a link to some of the benefits.

Like I said in the beginning, you have the right to choose. That's what makes this country what it is, and I hope to God it stays that way. So, keep playing the Playstation (which I have no problem with, and will probably get one of them too). But let's try to keep a conversation based on facts, not some seemingly socialist bullshit.
    Way to go Captain literal!

This is nothing to do with "socialist bullshit" sir, I am executing my right to not pay a third party for Netflix. The prices are generalizations. I pay about 30 a month for Netflix, there are larger amounts that can be paid, and lessor amounts. The internet access is to cover the gambit as in I know people who pay ~ 50 a month, and I know people who pay 125 or more a month, they are called generalizations.

I don't disagree that you get "more" for the silly xbox membership, however, I don't use it. So from my vantage point, since I don't play online games, Xbox is trying to charge me for services that I already pay for. Believe you me, there are very few who believe as I do in terms of politics. I am one of the very few who stand for personal responsibility. Don't go thinking that just because I am from CA I am a democrat (look where I live, one of the final bastions of republicans in the whole of California), I don't claim republican either. To my eyes, they are two sides of the same coin, and serve only to divide and distract the nation from what is really important.

So, you agree that your previous comments were in fact bullshit. Good, case closed.

We don't discuss politics here. We have few rules here, but we do appreciate the observance of them.

No I don't agree with you, I think paying for a service that should be free is foolish... but continue in your rose hazed world.

I even preferred using it over the Android tablet I already had. And the more I used it, the more I liked it. <edit sorry missed this response>

I am anti apple too, unfortunately I am forced to work with and on them :(

Never liked the thought of purchasing hardware, then being told how, when, where, and why to use it (trust me, it is worse with Xserve...)

most of the jobs I have had in the past, I have been able to live without M$, even my current job there is no M$ in the building so that is a positive :D

Damn, I don't think I've ever been complimented on my finger wagging. You must have missed which finger I was using.

    I love fanatics......they're so....fanatical.

While I'm not a huge fan of MS and Bill Gates, having worked in the IT industry for close to 20 years, I've had to learn their stuff if I wanted to stay employed. When I first started in computers I was introduced to the Novell networking software which was at the time, far superior to Windows NT 3.1 But I took a look at the market place and saw that MS had the vast majority of it so I pursued cert's in MS's stuff so I could ensure I got a job. I've still never worked anywhere that had any Novell so it's a good thing I didn't pursue Novell cert's or I'd have had a real tough time finding work.

I've noticed a lot of Linux users are very aggressively anti-MS and I've often wondered why. You all behave as if Bill and company bankrupted you, put you in the poor house, drove over your dog and raped your sister. What's up with that? Seriously tc3driver what did MS do to you personally to make you "despise MS with every fiber of your being"?

I'm not a big fan of Macintosh/Apple either, but when I have to work with it, I work with it. It's worth noting that's become a lot easier for me since the newer OS is UNIX based and I know my way around UNIX.

As to the rest of the discussion about Netflix and internet access.....

I pay $8 month for Netflix. I don't know why anybody is paying more since that's what they advertise their service for. I used to watch it on my Wii but about a year ago we bought a new TV and home theater system and the theater system remote has a Netflix button on it so the poor Wii has sat pretty much ignored for a long time now.

I pay about $30/month for my highspeed internet and that gives me 5 Mbps/250 GB's of bandwidth which we don't ever come close to using. Cost for highspeed varies from place to place and depends also on which package you want. You're going to pay a lot more for 100 Mbps than you would for 5 Mbps.

Raced a few races on Forza the last couple of days, and it's been great. As expected the asshats are already much less prevalent. I think it's a combination of boredom on their part, as well as the promised online matching system to pair like players, both on skill and tendency.

    Way to go Microsoft!

Just kidding, it's Turn10 that is supposedly working on that.

    ROFLMAO

Amen that. I never used it to be completely honest. I have an unopened copy in my desk with the shrink wrap still on it. I knew it was an "Edsel" before the copy was gifted to me so I never touched it. Vista was just another ME and therefore a POS so I never touched it either.

I have copies of most every MS operating system since (and including) DOS. I have about 10 different flavors of Linux and both Open/FreeBSD on CD/DVD in a desk drawer and have Windows XP/7, Redhat Linux, CentOS Linux and OpenBSD running on computers in my home office.

I would have liked to only have to learn one OS (operating system) but that would have limited my employability too much.

Me either. I hate them all equally..........

I've worked with all different platforms and each has it's advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I think anybody unwilling to learn new OS's is limiting themselves more than I'm willing to. While I'm no aficionado of Linux/UNIX (I suck at programming/scripting), I know my way around them good enough to work with them. The first computer I ever put my hands on was a Mac and within two weeks I was so far ahead of the class it wasn't funny because it made sense to me and I was able to learn more on my own than I could with the instructor's help. But then I've always been a quick study on most things and have always been willing to learn.

And therein lies the crux of the situation.

In my experience, it happens like this....

You (a generalization to make my point) started with whichever OS and hung out with other people who used the same OS. They all "hated" the other guys so you decided to "hate" all the rest too. Mostly because you didn't know the other OS's and learning them would take time that you didn't want to spend. It's not that you couldn't, it's that you didn't want to because each has it's own learning curve and some curves are much longer than others. Linux/UNIX used to be prime examples of a longer learning curve. But now with Linux versions like Ubuntu they've become very user friendly and therefore very much like MS and the learning curve has dropped somewhat from what it used to be. I've always been tickled by the fact that the fanatic Linux/UNIX crowd that hate MS have spent so much time and effort making their favorite OS more MS-like. It's a humorous irony that always makes me smile.

I've been unhappy with MS many times.....hell, I've been working with them for most of 20 years so that's unavoidable.....but hate them? Hate Linux/UNIX? Hate Mac/Apple? Hell no, life's to short and that would be a grand waste of time. Besides, I enjoy change and new challenges and pity anybody who doesn't.
