Server Move

Howdy ladies and gents. It's been quite some time since the last time we changed hosting providers, but the time has come where we need to shuffle things around once more. I don't have an exact date/time yet, but I expect the move to take place in the upcoming days.

What to expect? DNS propagation is pretty fast these days, but there may still be cases where it might take a few days to catch up. The old site will stay up at its old place, but in an "off state". I will publish the IP address of the new site which you can use to access the site until DNS catches up.

I will keep everyone posted!

Just out of curiosity (I'm a computer geek by trade so can't help myself) are you moving a physical server, or just changing hosting companies?

I had it hosted on a virtual server from lunarpages, they priced themselves out of the market. I moved it to a much faster VM with twice the memory for 1/2 the price from ubiquity. So far have been very pleased with ubiquity.

It appears the move went well as I'm having no issues and the occasional latency I used to experience seems to have gone away.

I need to look into a new solution for chats. Flashchat had many issues including security. Not sure if any of that has been corrected, but I'll look into it as time permits.

The server move went a lot smoother then I was expecting. The last time we did this several years back, DNS took days to catch up in some cases. It seems like DNS servers are paying closer attention to the TTL settings for a CNAME. Right about an hour after I switched the IP in the DNS settings, people started showing up on the site.

I only see one problem so far the site don't light my cigar for me when I enter can you fix that?
