Thread: Lent

    Default Lent

So this past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday and for you Catholics you know what that means! Baseball Preseason.....and Lent. I struggled hard with deciding this years abstinence and settled on Cigars (The Horror). Locked up the Humi and threw away the key until April 24th. (Most likely midnight of April 23rd though.) A couple of positives are that I will continue to stock the humi and by then I should be up at bat for the Puro Pass IV. Today, Day 4, has been my toughest day so far. In order to take my mind off it I figure I pose the typical Lent question.

For those who participate in Lent what have you decided to give up or take on this year?

    I'm giving up drinking.

I gave up booze AND cigars last year. That was a disaster

I have on good authority that Sundays don't count in lent Each is a mini Easter according to the church.

Lent is 40 days. If you do the math, Sundays are excluded.

They never told us that when we were kids?

They have a discussion about here, but I believe he is correct.

I agree, if you are giving something up for lent, you should commit to it full time until Easter. I gave up my cigars, and I won't be smoking until Easter.

To me, its meaning is not to make you suffer, it's to make you remove something that allows you to contemplate your relationship with your higher power.

I think a lot of people take it the other way, and then you just end up spending Lent looking forward to its end.

I'm giving up my sanity for the next 6 Fridays. Catholics around here love pizza on Fridays during lent. Hold the peperoni.

I understand the concept of giving up something for Lent, and for any person doing so if it helps them to contemplate their sin and place in this world.. I believe that it is fine thing. But my personal practice (Lutheran) I can contemplate that just fine without giving up anything. Certainly is not a bad practice though. Have a good Lent everyone. Roger.

While I'm not a practicing Catholic, it seems my tankless hot water heater is. It gave up on making water hot.
Trying to convert it to Hindu right now.
