Thread: Wrapper unrolls

    Default Wrapper unrolls

I have learned here that wrappers splitting is usually the result of excessive humidity. I have had several ROTT where the wrapper did not split but just came unrolled from around the cigar. Sometimes right at first and other times after the one third or so point. I'm guessing a too dry smoke but I don't know. I had a couple where the entire wrapper unrolled right after lighting. Is this poor construction or a too dry condition?

My inclination is construction. Too dry would be indicated by a very dark charcoal color ash and faster burn.

When I first started smoking cigars I cut the end off too far a few times. Which is to say, past the cap. With nothing to hold the wrapper in place, it unrolled.

If your cigars are unrolling from the end you smoke, you may be cutting too deep.

I have a couple Xikar cutters and with those, I open them, lay them on a flat surface and stand the cigar up in them to cut them. I find this cuts to the perfect depth and never cuts past the cap and they don't unroll anymore.

I have had them unroll from the foot and from in the middle. Have not had any problems with the cut. I gotten fairly good at that. The cigar shape is straight; I think its called a parjao or something like that.
