Partagas Serie D #5 EL 2008 - smoked 15 November 2016
This cigar has had checkered reviews. It has been criticized for its cost relative to its size (petit robusto), and construction and draw issues. This was the last one that I had, and was no exception. The draw was excellent, but the cigar never burned straight and required numerous touch-ups. The first half of the first third (first sixth?) was excellent - very full-flavoured, but with no harshness. Then the rest of the cigar - meh, almost bland except for some spice notes. The expectation of an EL is that the cigar is something special, but this cigar wasn't. An SD#4 or an SP#2 are better, and better value.

Ramon Allones Specially Selected TEB JUN 07 - smoked Nov 29, 2016
The RASS is one of the classic Habanos. It doesn't appeal to fans of the "new" Cubans like the Montecristo Open series, it isn't sophisticated like Cohiba or Trinidad, it is - at almost 10 years of age - just raw power, heavy, light on the sweetness, a no-finesse old-school powerhouse cigar. What strong Dominicans like La Flor wish they were. The strength has increased markedly over the years; this box has just gotten stronger and stronger and spicier and spicier. First third hints at what is to come, and is super-complex. Second third smacks you in the face with tobacco taste so strong it is like strong coffee, and just keeps on coming strong in the last third. To be honest, a bit too much for me tonight, but so exactly what I expected that I smoked it down to the nub. A cigar that every aficionado should experience sometime.
