    Good news!

It looks like we're going to have a new member of the family, too.

We were out rollerblading yesterday afternoon and we saw a cat that appeared to have been hit by a car. We ran the cat to an emergency vet hospital where they basically told us it would cost $2500 to amputate the damaged leg.

Since we don't have that kind of cash just lying around, we spent most of the day trying to figure out what to do.

Last night, the vet called to tell us the hospital gave him permission to do the surgery himself after his shift was over. That brought the cost down to $500-$750, which we can afford (my gf is putting her entire tax refund toward it; she's the sweetest woman in the world).

My gf just called the hospital and he's awake and looking good.

I really want to do something to get the vet the recognition he deserves. I'm thinking about calling a local news outlet to see if they'll do a little "feel good" story on him.

Nope, he makes the evil eye right before he poops on me...

The chicken is growing WAY faster than I ever thought it would. I've looked for chicken info everywhere I can, but if anyone knows ANYTHING speak up! Help and advice is always welcome.

SuperChuck, for the cat. We've adopted every dog and cat we have and also I found the little chick on the side of road, so I'm a big believer in helping animals.

my "mother in law" was telling me to go to the local hardware store for chicken feed, and said "You know, near KFC?" and I just looked at her and said you sick basterd, the chicken can hear you! She died laughing.

KB, I don't think regular chicken feed from the hardware store is what you want unless you want to eat your pet later on.
If i remember correctly, the feed they have for chickens, turkeys, etc, is a mix made to primarily to fatten the bird up for eating. If you want to keep the chicken around (and not eat it) I'd look at a pet supply store for a feed similar they have for people who keep pigeons. My dad has racing pigeons and if you want I can get in touch with him and ask him what he feeds them.

lmao!! KB, you're gonna have a Tennessee racin' chicken!!

Seriously - laying hens eat lotsa stuff. For a few summers when I was a kid I watched a neighbor's hen house and garden. That garden, especially the okra, was a pain in the ass to keep up with. I threw all the extra produce in with those chickens and they loved it. Hey I fed 'em their other stuff too - I just supplemented their diet.

    OUCH!

And in the case of my sister in law, all of the above plus: more faithful, smarter, and better breath!

He's precious SuperChuck. To bad I'm not a cat lover. My dog Casper's cat (his name is Nermal) is an attention hog. I tried to take Casper down to the Humaine Society to adopt another puppy, but he doesn't want anything to do with them. We did visit with 2 kittens he loved. My heart went out to one little one missing a hind leg. So now I've got to take Nermal down to see how they interact. Here's to hoping for a happy family after the new addition!

My cat is a dog lover, so I know how that goes...

From what the vet was telling me, three-legged cats let along just fine. He was saying they're basically 3-legged animals with a spare. So far, this little guy is getting along fairly well. The only thing holding him back is the sock we have around his "good" leg (he had stitches on that leg).
