Well i just moved into my dorm at UT(trying to find someone that goes here) and i wanted to smoke a cigar so i called up my friend who smokes cigarettes. We went down to the smoking section and there were about 2 other people smoking cigarettes. We sat down at a different table and in about 2 minutes our table had 5 people at it and they all said that they had to come up to the table to see that cigar i had. I was the only one smoking a cig but that is what attracted everyone to come over and smoke with us. I was having a Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur 1066. It was awesome. Does this happen with y'all? Do cigars attract attention to you?

A quality cigar will allways be a conversation piece. They draw both good and bad attention though.

It does seem to draw attention to me. I have yet to smoke a cigar on campus but will get my chance in a few short days. Judging from my experiences at the State Fair a couple weeks back, I'm expecting a few heads to turn. At the bars, which I go to a couple times a month, I feel like I'm the center of attention when I light up a cigar. Even when I'm driving and enjoying a cigar, I've noticed some people staring at me in the next lane of traffic when stopped a red light. However, my friend Matt is the only one who ever talks cigars with me away from this forum. I've never had a group of smokers approach me to compare notes. It'd be kind of fun someday if I did. Maybe I can be a trendsetter..lol.

Smoking a cigar is an option. I used to smoke cigarettes. When the ole' nicotides start callin', you better light up!

Smoking a cigar takes dedication. Having a cigarette is a 5 minute task, you step out, have a quick smoke, and you're back in the swing of things. To have a cigar, you're talking 30-60 minutes at least! That takes planning and foresight.

Most people flat out don't know cigars. Think about cigarettes. In the United States, we know Winston, Camel, Marlboro, Parliament, and a few lesser brands. We all know the Marlboro man, Joe Camel, and No Bull. The options are pretty simple: light, medium, wide, menthol, unfiltered. Compared to Toro, Corona, Double Corona, Robusto, Presidente, Perfecto, and Torpedo, that's pretty simple, especially since most of the designations are pretty vague.

Cigar smokers enjoy variety and lack brand loyalty. As a beer drinker, people are always asking me what I drink. Most people will respond "Bud" or "Guinness". I've enjoyed hundreds of labels in dozens of styles and have been known to order my beer only after deciding on my meal (I don't want to get stuck drinking a pale when a heffeweisen would be more suitable!). Cigar guys are the same way. We may have some favorite smokes, but we tend to have well-stocked humidors and choose a particular stick based on mood.

And of course, many people associate cigars with the cheap drugstore stinkers, so if you light up, most people think you're going to take them on a stinktrip. In fact, when I set up my smoking porch, my girlfriend (who I thought would HATE the idea) said she liked the way it made the room smell...

i tend to talk to people at my ren faire when i see them smoking a cigar. its a great ice breaker to start a conversation up. the only other public smoking i do was when i when to the "fox and hound" a coulple weeks ago when the manager came over to see what we were all doing.

Yes, on occasion. In the past six months, a few people have come up and asked me what I was smoking and struck up a conversation. More than a few people have moved far away as they appeared to dislike the smoke, or have given me an ugly look in a few cases, to which I responded in kind, and I'm better at ugly looks than most people

I did get a few stares by the older guys but they looked as if they wish they had one. Most of the non-smokers just ignored me but the ones that do smoke came up to me. I met lots of people that night too and plan on meeting more that same way.

I bring cigarillos with me to work. I work with mostly women so when I walk out to the smoking porch and licht up a nice smelling cigarillo. All the smoking ladies ask what I am smoking and from then on we ave nice conversation. I have found lighting up in public these days has one of 2 effects. Eiher stares of people who either hate the smell, recognize the smell but wife made them quit, likes the smell. Usually when someone likes the smell they come up and ask about the cigar.

We allow people to smoke in the shop, and as people pass by the shop the smell will eaither bring them in or drive them away. I have met very few people that don't have an opinion (sp?) , they eaither hate it, or it reminds them of their Dad.
