I see these all the time on cbid and was wondering if they are tied in with cigars international or if anyone has tried them?

I didn't much care for the regular 5 Vegas - although they are pretty cheap (I thought they were a bit mild, and mine didn't burn very well). I've been curious about the 5 Vegas '05 Limitada that just came out...

The 5 Vegas Limitada - a stunning "small-batch" series produced just once a year.

Each year, a small production run of 5 Vegas will be produced and each year, the blend will be completely different. What will not change is that only the finest of the finest materials will be used. That means only superior, supremely aged tobaccos and only expert torcedores.

Well, the first shipment of the 5 Vegas Limitada '05 has landed. I am frothing at the mouth just looking at it. For starters, the stunningly complex 6-country blend includes Cuban-seed, Nicaraguan, Peruvian, Corojo long-leaf fillers; a Brazilian binder; plus the icing on the cake - an amazing 5-year-old Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper. It's made in the La Aurora factory in the Dominican Republic, the oldest factory in that country and one of the most respected in the world. It's available in one size only, a 6.25"x52 belicoso shape. Lastly, there are only 50,000 cigars produced for the entire year.

Rolling it between forefinger and thumb it is clearly well-constructed - solidly packed with no soft spots to speak of. The wrapper leaf is slightly veiny with an appealing marbleized, chocolate-brown wrapper. Flame it up and the initial impression is a deep, pleasant richness yet very mellow. The draw is smooth and yields big clouds of velvety smoke. It's medium in body and extraordinarily smooth, with a distinct leathery, smokey character throughout, and a subtle sweetness that develops toward the end. The aroma is wonderful and the flavor profile is quite unique - unlike any other cigar I can think of.

One of these was included in the "cubanesque sampler" I got with my 5-count otterbox on cigarbid.

I remember it quite well, easily lit and an easy draw, great clouds of smoke, good flavor, and a strong-ish nicotine kick. Now you mention it, I might have had a bit of a canoe-ing problem but I seem to remember being able to fix it up pretty easily.

A good buy at $4 or $5 a piece, it's on my "must try again when the opportunity arises" list.

canoe-ing? is this similar to tunneling?

One sided, uneven burn. Called canoeing because the unburned side of the cigar begins to take on the shape of a canoe. I learned that term years ago from another smokeable item that is not a cigar...ahem....

I can see the name more when used in conjunction with "the other" smokeable item since it tends to bear a stronger resemblance when it burns unevenly.

Now mind you, I stopped that stuff A LONG, LONG time ago. Really.

canoe-ing? is this similar to tunneling?

Well, as I understand it, tunneling is when the filler is burning and the wrapper is not. I sometimes notice this right after the ash falls. Eventually the filler will go out and the cigar needs to be relit. By canoe-ing, I mean one side of the wrapper has burned more than the other and the cigar is starting to curl uplike a canoe. The cigar keeps burning but it's burning unevenly. Sometimes, I can fix it up with a lighter by burning off the unburned wrapper.

I enjoyed my 5 Vegas gold saturday evening Like posted before, easily lit, easy draw, and burned evenly. I cant describe the taste.... but I liked it

I have to agree that the term is used in the other context probably more then when referring to cigars

It can also be referred to as a "Run" or "It's Running"...

I tried a 5 Vegas last week, I thought it was good.
The draw was a little tight but I still enjoyed the smoke.

oh yeah the subject of the thread. The 5 Vegas I've tried were alright. Nothing about them really sticks out in my mind, I tend to only smoke stuff that makes a really good impression on me after a 1-2 stick test drive. Can you find singles anywhere? Its always good to try before you buy. Maybe I will give'm one more try myself.
