Thread: Are you acquiring more cigars than you're smoking?

  1. Default Are you acquiring more cigars than you're smoking?

I knew that smoking cigars could be addictive. I didn't realize how addictive collecting cigars could be. Between bombings and cigarbid and JR's specials and newbie samplers and so on, I seem to be acquiring 2-3x as many cigars as I'm smoking or giving away.

Does any one else have the same "problem"?

It always seems when I go to the store, I want a couple new higher-priced sticks. Then, when it comes time to select something to smoke, I think "Nah, I'm just ______, I don't need an expensive cigar"

I don't have a choice, I have to smoke as much as I buy because I just dont have room for a cooler or more tupperwares in my dorm room....

I just started, so I smoke the one I buy from the store at an astronomical price :)...but that's expected in the beginning I guess.

I did take the next step though and convinced my gf to buy me a humidor / cutter as an early birthday present (coming up in less than a month). With this investment (thanks to everyone on here for helping in getting me started), I definitely hope to acquire more than I smoke :).

As of right now, it's about even. I am hoping to change that with my new job coming up later this month!

Well, thats a tricky question because alot of times I'll buy 5 or more of the same cigar, smoke maby two and stick the rest in my big humidor, now if I do that every week then obviously I am buying more than I am smoking- but they will be smoked eventually. You also have to take into account what you have allready baught and are taking out of your humidor from who knows how long ago. I think most people it varries from time to time depending on differnt things, some times you may add X number of cigars to your collection and only smoke a few of them, then there are times you may not add any but still smoke X number in a givin time. Overall- yeah I probably buy more than I smoke currently.

At first I was trying everything..
I was trying to find what I liked best.

Now I have a few I really like, but I still have to try some of the ones I haven't had yet.

So, I am still adding to the humi, not as bad as before though.

That damn cbid could bankrupt a fella

Now that I have a humi, I usually smoke something I have more than one of (ST Dupont, RyJ Maduro, El Rey Del Mundo) It's like I can't smoke my "last" Montecristo or CAO, even though the store 5 minutes away has plenty of them.

OF COURSE I've got more cigars than I'm smoking - isn't that the whole point?

    No? Oops.

I love buying them, holding them, looking at them, collecting them, making sweet, sweet love to them in the wee hours. Okay, maybe not - but half the fun is definitely just having them. I am addicted to having a full humidor - so I always have at least 150 or so on hand, and when it gets a little empty I go shopping.

Or I mention my dilemma to my father-in-law. Told him my main humi was a little low last month, and 25 Cuban Cohiba Esplendidos showed up a week later. Can you see why I'm marrying his daughter?

Best part is that means there are always a few treasures I've forgotten about hiding at the bottom, aged a couple of years now.

I have a friend who has around 3,000 cigars in his place. He probably smokes 2-3 a week. You do the math. At least you - and I - aren't that bad!

    Yet.

To Krautle87: I feel you, dawg - I'm just like that. I'll never smoke the last couple cigars in a box. It just doesn't feel right. I've got a couple excellent Ashton's somewhere in there from a box I got for Christmas years ago. They'll probably still be there 20 years from now. Don't ask me why. I guess I'm sentimental.

Buying on average 15 sticks a month, smoking 6 - 8 a month, just ordered a box of Fonseca KDT Cadetes and 5 Partagas Serie D No. 4.

Giving up cigarettes at the moment, so the cigars might start getting smoked a bit more regularly (thus the Fonsecas)
