Default Hey! A Few Pics Of Ybor City, Fla

    Well,

Got back from my monthly visit to Tampa to see my buddy and family.

He took me to Ybor City which is one of the first Cuban and Italian settlements in Florida. It reminds me of New Orleans in it's architecture. It also reminds me of Newbury Street in Boston with it's kitchy, sometimes high priced shops.

Loads of clubs, restaurants, stores, bars, etc.

The pics here are just a few. Felix Huelga in his shop called "Tampa Cigar Inc.". Felix's place is what I imagine many places are like in Cuba. Everything is clean, but very spartan. Across the street from his place is a hoitey-toitey shop that charges outrageous prices while Felix's are much more reasonable and much better tasting! Felix's hospitality is awesome. I can't say enough about him. Great hand-rolled cigars on site by Felix and excellent Cuban Espresso!

We ate at Adobe Gila. A cool outdoor bar. Great food and drink. Mmmmmm....Jaeger Bombs! (Jaegermeister and Red Bull!)

I can't wait to go back myself. We stopped there after I got off the train from Miami and walked around and then had an awesome dinner at the Columbia

Tres' cool, MMAB, thanks for posting. Now I actually have something to look forward to if I ever head to Southern Florida.
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.

    Default OK...a few more pics

Here's a couple more shots of Felix's. In particular his press.

If you should go there, remember. This place is nothing special aesthetically. It is bare bones, but Felilx's hospitality more than makes up for any fancy furnishings.

Also another side street shot, a pic of the incredibly messy but delicious Nachos at Adobe Gila and a pic of the Muvico Theatre.

    Nice photos.

I agree, Tampa Cigar Inc is a fine place to enjoy a good, handrolled cigar and espresson. I go to Ybor every couple weeks. Fun place to visit. I think there is something that should be said about some of the small pizza places around there as well. I really like the place called "Roma Pizza". Excellent food.

    Default Thanks Crickett!

    Funny you should mention pizza.........

I'm from the Boston area as is my buddy and family. Since they've moved to Florida, one of their biggest complaints is not being able to find good pizza or Chinese food around Tampa.

We noticed several pizza joints but didn't try any. We will the next time by there.

There was one place called "Bernini", touting wood fired pizza ovens. Their front door is incredibly beautiful. Copper framed with a gigantic Cicada as a door pull. Incredible work. A pic is below. Click on the thumbnail for a bigger view.
