I highly doubt it but I'm one who says that Zippo lighters don't affect a cigar either. A few people disagree with me but I still think I'm right. I'd witnessed tests where people who CANNOT SEE what their cigar is being lit with CANNOT TELL when it was a Zippo, a regular lighter or a match.

I've not witnessed any tests, but I've never had a zippo affect anything I smoked. I assume a match couldn't be any different as long as you let the sulphur burn off for a second or so first.
well these matches were some cheap ass matches. Either the cigar was just nasty, or that gave it some weird taste, cuz I've never had that kind of taste in a cigar before.
So long as the match head fully burns it should be fine. I lit a pipe once with hurricane matches, which are basically two inch matches with one inch being the head. It was nasty. Like sucking in sulfur.
I second that. Strike the match, wait a couple seconds and then bring it to the cigar (or pipe).Originally Posted by nhcigarfan
Not if you light it correctly. If you light it without drawing in the fire (preferably in your hand, not in your mouth), then you should have no problem. Certain people draw in like they're lighting a cigarette. The flame pulling through the stick kills flavor no matter what you light it with.Originally Posted by QuietC
I have a friend who refuses to light up with anything aside from his zippo, I don't know if it's just a habit, or if there's a flavor difference, but me personally, i'll take my 3700 F torch lighter anyday, it makes it easier in my opinion to light 'er up more evenly, but that's just me. I've heard other people say that the only way to light a cigar is to take those little divider peices of spanish cedar from some boxes, and light them up, then light the cigar with those. They claim you get a better flavor that way, but i've never tried it. I figure, i'd rather let the tobacco give the flavor, not the by-products of my ignition source (it sounds even less healthy).
Well, since this thread has been brought back to life. I have lit my cigars with many different methods. Butane lighter, zippo, stick matches, paper matches, etc. I have never noticed a change in flavor. I just light em up with whatever is available at the time.
