Default Hey guys, newby with a question..

I was looking at cigar.com and wanted to buy one of their samplers. But I do not have a humidifier, and as a newby I don’t want to buy 5 cigars, and a 100+ dollar humidifier.. so my question is, if I buy the 5 pack sampler, how long can I save them with out a humidifier? I live in Hawaii, so the relative humidity is pretty high, this should help some right? Or what can I do for cheep to save the cigars, until I decide to invest in a humidifier.

Also, if anyone has any samplers from any internet sites you would recommend, would you please.. I di do some research on the forum, and if there are any members, that would like to trade, I would appreciate that also!..

    thanks!.

Something as simple as a ziplock bag will keep your cigar fresh for awhile. And if you put a little bag in it with cotton or florist foam and add a bit of distilled water it can last you as long as you keep the foam moist

    Here's an example:

    Default Well....

    actually....

If the relative humidity in Hawaii is fairly high (which it must be) you probably needn't be concerned about your cigars drying out.

As long as the humidity is running above 65% or so I would just keep them in a zip-loc bag in some place out of the sun and where it is relatively cool. If you have air conditioning it's a different story. The AC will dry the room AND the cigars. In that instance Roham's suggestion of the zip-loc and a small piece of damp cotton would work fine.

    Just my .02 !

There are more sites with samplers but I'm to lazy to post them.

You can also try the addiction that is cigarbid.com I avoid it cause my ass is poor.

Welcome to the board from Wisconsin.

A tupperware container or small cooler also works well for a container. You still need to monitor the humidity. If it is too high some dried spanish cedar blocks work well to draw out the moisture. Or like Roham said if it is too low.

Yeah, I'd say a plastic bag is your easiest solution. If you don't use air conditioning, you should have a proper RH...

As a side note about a humidor, if you're gonna have small numbers of cigars at any given time, i'd look into a small "travel" humidor, i bought on off of eBay, and am very happy with it. Also, there's a great deal at CubanCrafters that has a bundle of cigars and a humidor here. but i think that the all-time best sampler i've seen is the "brown bag" sampler here.

That deal is really cool but if you look at the "Your Price" it is the same as the retail, an oversight which makes it look like a basement operation.

Cuban Crafters is legit. I have one of their humidors and I'm very happy with it. Their cigars are borderline, but probably make for decent "beginner smokes"

Those CI brown bags are GREAT, but if you're just starting out, a specifically mild sampler might be a better bet (you never know what you'll get in those brown bags)

Not to sounds offensive or anything, but the "Your price" is listed and striked through, in order to be more dramatic. The $29.99 is the special they're doing right now. And about the post about the brown bag sampler, I guess you're right, but I figure, if you're a new enjoyer of cigars, that brown bag's bound to come with at least a few milds, and having that selection gives you the chance to see from the begining where your taste lays (I would just go online, and look up what the cigar is before smoking it). I know for me, I only hadto smoke one mild to know that they weren't gonna cut it. My second cigar was a medium-full, and I haven't turned back since. That's just my logic, you can take it or leave it if you wish.
