    Default Padron 5000

Sunday, I lit up a Padron 5000. Let me preface this with a couple of things. Padrons were the first cigars that I fell in love with, the churchill. The other thing is that I had it in a new humidor that was running a bit moist, like high 70s.
It was awful. Lit up poorly, tasted harsh, scorched easily, went out twice. I’m too busted up for a better review.
Someone tell me it was a bum cigar, tell me my humidor was too wet, tell me I’m not man enough for the 5000, I don’t care. Just don’t tell me that you’ve encountered the same.

I'm not giving up, yet. I've got another, and my humidor is settling down.
    Any thoughts?

It was not a bum cigar. Your humidor is way too wet, and as to the man enough part you'll have to ask some female to pass judgement as that's outside my area of expertise.

If the humidor doesn't settle down try dry boxing your smokes for a couple days before you torch them off.

Good luck. The 5000s are a great smoke and well worth a repeat effort.

Thanks Gary, for the confirmation. The humidor is still a bit wet, but its coming down. Any guess as to why its running high? something to do with the way it was seasoned, maybe?

Just remember, every time you have to re-wet your humidification device you don't have to saturate it. If the humidor came pre-conditioned or if you have been using a 50/50 distilled water/PG solution you will only need a couple of drops of distilled water to re-activate. Search "salt test", calibrate your your hydrometer (sp) and then let it come down to around 65% or search "heartfelt industries" and buy some 65% beads, personally I have never used them but they have a great reputation.

the 5Ks are definitely worth another try. I like these, the 3000 and the 2000, maduro preferably. Also, welcome to the board.

Hey thanks. Yeah, I've been wanting to try the maduros.
As for the humidor, I took the puck out and its dropping. The temp outside is starting to hit the low 40s at night, we'll start freezing soon. Things should be drying out. In three or four weeks I'll be hitting you'all up on how to keep the humidor humid. ha

    Hey,

I hate to bump this, but I see I got on The Silent Chamber's index of reviews and I just couldn't stand how I left this.
Got the humidor sorted out right after I posted, got a couple of the 5000's sitting for a while, and tried again.

I liked it a lot. I guess what struck me was that it was like smoking three Padron's at the same time. You get a lot of smoke and flavor.

I don't know if it tasted like spice at the beginning or end, it didn't taste like chocolate or anything like that, I suspect my pallet is crude. I do know that it was 1.5 hours really well spent. Setting up in my smokers hooch it was like floating in water.

I got a penny jar set aside for nothing else but a box of these.
    Patience, patience.

Someone hooked me up with a couple of the 2K's some time back (at least, I'm pretty sure they were 2K's). At any rate, a very nice smoke for sure!
