The Term 'Smoke Shop'...

seems to be used too loosely in my neck of the woods. Since there's only one cigar shop in my city, I decided to branch out to the next nearest major city (40 miles away).

With superpages.com as my friend, I look up all the shops under the 'tobacco category,' map them out and begin my adventure.

The first shop was a legit cigar shop and an authorized fuente dealer....really bad selection, and the guy didn't even have a walk-in humidor.

The rest of the shops I go to contain 'smoke shop' in them. Well apparently this term is used loosely because the next set of shops I visited only sold glass pipes and x-rated merchandise...

What a bust....

When I search for cigar shops I generally use the term tobacconist. I found that if i typed the word cigars...it would lead me toward a cigarette depot that had a few swisher sweets. If I used smoke shop....I found what you found, porno freaks and stoners. Actually I got kicked out of a porn store for comlimenting them on their bong. The guy said "Sir, that is a tobacco pipe, not a bong." I told him "Yeah right, looks like a bong to me" He told me that if I said bong one more time that I would be asked to leave. Naturally I asked "You are going to kick me out of a porn store for using the word bong??" Well, I guess they do kick people out. Anyways, if you are looking for cigar shops that actually have cigars I suggest using tobacconist.

Yeah, I used 'cigars' as my query parameter and it came up with the category "Cigar, Cigarette, & Tobacco Dealers" and had those "smoke shops" in that category. Bah

Head shops are usually pretty easy to figure out, though... "Ethnic Concepts" is probably not a tobacconist :)

Sometimes you will stumble upon one that is all three. There used to be a shop here called Smokers Paradise that was your typical head shop, sold cigarettes, and had a few humidor cabinets with some pretty decent stuff in them.
