New to forum

Hi there,
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to this forum. I am a Freshman in college, and have smoked cigars for a year or so. However, finding myself in a new town, it seems that cigar smoking is not always welcome, even outside. In a school where a great number of people smoke cigarettes, why is it that cigars are looked down upon? I enjoy smoking outside, because you have the best of both worlds, a great cigar, and fresh air. I don't understand why I need to be stared down just because I have a stogie in my mouth. What should I look for when searching for a cigar friendly smoking spot? Before, I used to hang out with some pilots at the local airport; after we were done with a flight, we'd light up and just have fun. I don't know if I posted this in the right place, but any help would be great. Thanks

As far as your concern goes I would just accept it. I think that stigmata just goes with Cigar Smoking although I don't like nor understand it either... Smoking a cigar makes you stand out like a sore thumb

The best thing is to smoke it alone on your pourch at the end of the night

Or just smoke it when lots of people are around and blow it directly in the face of those who hate it most....

Hey, another young gun on the forum. Welcome.

I've found a few people who like cigars here, and there's actually a cigar club in the school, so I've been pretty lucky. Alot of time, I don't think the looks are nessisarily hostile, it's just surprising to see someone younger with a cigar. It may just be a bit of a double-take effect.

If you get to smoke you get to enjoy it. Those that turn their nose up at you are the purest people on earth. Remember they have to live with that attitude everyday. The cigar smoke goes away in a little while.

Just wait till you're in a establishment with say about 30 - 50 people smoking cigarettes and after you light up someone will definately have the audacity to complain about your cigar . It will happen eventually . Hopefully you won't have to leave or extinguish the fine cigar before hippocracy takes over . I had a guy that was smoking cigarettes ask me to put out my cigar in a bar once . I think I was the only one not smoking cigarettes at the time . As far age , I get the " You smoke cigar's ? " comment all the time , I'm 37 . It's almost like you gotta be 80 to enjoy a cigar without annoying comment's . I can't imagine what it must be like for a female in her lower 20's . People in this country (USA) need to stop worrying so much about what everyone else is doing and being so stinking judgementle ! Sorry for rambling on . And to anyone who complain's about our cigar's

hell yah! another saluki! i used to go to SIU and i have family down there. welcome to the board. keep on smoking where ever you want/ or allowed. sooner or later more cigar smokers will join you. then you can have strenght with numbers. have you found a good smoke shop down there yet? i started smoking after i came back up north so i didn't check out the town for smoke shops. welcome to the board again, hope you like it here.

Maybe someone could give me tips on what to look for next. I really enjoy Churchill's when I have the time, and I'm looking for something that isn't so mild.

try an Arturo Fuente 8-5-8. they are reasonably priced and taste good. they tend to be on the milder side but have good flavor.

you living on campus? i was on thompson piont.

Yeah, I'm living in Mae Smith, 16th Floor (Aviation Emphasis Floor). What was your major? I haven't really had time to find a cigar store around here, but I usually get my stuff from a store at home. I've heard of the Arturo Fuente's and I might try that next. Thanks

Sorry, I wasn't sure if my account name was not understood. Yet, you did make some great comments. For some reason, most people I talk to believe that cigars are only for older people, and maybe alot of that is because of George Burns, Churchill, Mark Twain, and the likes. It's unfortunate because I feel that cigars are one of life's simplest pleasures, and it seems to be a more healthy alternative to cigarettes. Not to mention that I can't stand the smell of cigarettes.

I'm 25 and have been smoking off and on for three years. Just got into the hobby big though in the last 4 months. Everyone I know is shocked when I tell them I smoke cigars so I understand the age thing. Screw it man if you like to smoke, smoke. I love it.

Padron Churchill. Try the 2000 and 3000 as well. Nice sticks that never fail to satisfy. La Aroma De Cuba is a nice choice as well.

Welcome to the board....Cigarette smokers looking down upon cigars is one of those great mysteries of the world! Where in IL do you live?? I am from WI, near the IL Northeast border.
