Dumb Question

If you smelled your humidor tube of beads does it have a weird smell, or is it just mine? (I am just worried about this because I don't know if it will affect my cigars). Also, I was told to blow-dry my beads if I over-watered them. Can you ruin the beads if you blow-dry them too much?

Now that you mention it, my tube does have a smell, too. I can only smell it though when I take it out of the humidor. The cedar overpowers it inside. I don't think it affects the cigars.
How much humidity is too much? What is your humidity inside your humidor? Do you have any cigars inside your humidor? I blowdried mine, but it really was not necessary. High speed on the hair dryer, with heat on the tube for about 15 seconds or so, then 15 off, then keep cycling and you should be fine, won't take too long to dry them out. Don't just keep it on high and not remove it, let the beads have a little break. I think the plastic could melt from the hair dryer is kept on too long. I only said all that to answer your question. If your humidity is not too high, like around 80%, and you don't have any cigars in your humidor, just give it a few days and it will lower on its own. Blowdrying is not necessary. But if it is like 90% go ahead and do it.

Yeah you are right.. I think I melted some of the plasic.. Oh well, I guess I'll order a new one.

Keeping cigars needs an equivilent of home brewing's "Don't worry, relax, have a homebrew"...

Melting a little of the plastic shouldn't ruin anything... But you probably want to let it cool down before putting it away, so you don't get that melty plastic smell in your humi...
