  1. Default Anti Newbie Mentality

    Hey All;

    There has been some talk of an anti-newbie mentality going around..... I joined about half a year ago and I found everyone helpful and polite to new guys/gals. Lets take a vote and see if you think there is really an anti-newbie mentality around here.......

    Hey,

    I actually like the polls because they are a great way to judge the community opinion...... The numbers are a pretty good representation of how the community feels.....

    There's a huge difference between "some talk" and one lone asshole shooting his ignorant mouth off.

    A little over one hour later it seems we have a consensus. There seems to be little/no harsh attitudes towards new members......

    As quiet possably the newest of the newbies, I will say that No there is no Anti-noobism... and i know about Anti-noobism... I mod on a board with 9000+ members and well people just dont like new people.

    Here its been wonderful, I had lurked around for a few weeks, then when i had a question I just joined up and started a thread. Felt very welcomed, even welcome enough to make a wise crack on the first day. But yall are a pretty nice crew, keep in mind that someone will come along and think everyone hates them because they;re new, when they just hate them because they are a tool. Its ineveitable.

    And that is all I have to say.

    There is not an "Anti-Newbie" mentality on this BB.... and you joined in June 2005...... that is 6 months, not a year.

    Newbies have to learn that no matter how long they have been smoking cigars, they are still a newbie on the BB..... If a newbie comes in here with a "know it all attitude", then they will be schooled on the proper way to handle themselves...... if they continue with the "know it all attitude" then usually they will have their ass handed to them. This BB and other BB run on trust. If a new guy comes on the BB and expects to have as much "trust" as another guy who has been here for 6 months he is sadly mistaken.

    Now stop with the stupid polls.......

    Enough of these ridiculous polls. You're spamming the board with nonsense and NOT doing anyone a favor.

    Stop trying to dig yourself out of the hole you got yourself in with that 'grammar' poll. You're only making things worse.

    I was worried a while back that we had kind of an anti-newbie mentality here. It was around the time the new ban policy went into effect and a few newbies got banned in a row...

    However, looking at a few of the newbies that have been on recently, I don't think there's any anti-newbie sentiment. I think there's an anti-come-into-our-house-and-piss-on-the-furniture mentality.

    Several newbies have come in with questions, which I hope were well-answered. Certainly everyone made a good attempt at answering them. Several newbies have come in with an "I've been smoking for a long time and I just found out about this place" mentality; we've welcomed them with open arms.

    And there are a few newbies who come in and act arrogant. They get beat up. Island Epicurean know what I'm talking about.

    Sometimes a beating can be a positive thing............. It helped put me in line.
