Have you ever thought about maybe turning off the TV, sitting down with your kids...and hitting them?
In my opinion it just depends on how much she is going to use it, and how much space does she need.
Which iPod are you considering?

If Apple could make dog poop out of white plastic, there would be a line to buy it.
This is what I use: LG VX-8100
I've used MP3 players for YEARS before they were considered popular. My first MP3 player connected to the parallel port because USB wasn't really quite an accepted standard yet. I bought an Apex DVD player because it could play MP3s.
I'm sick of lugging phones and PDAs and MP3 players all over, so I jammed them all together in one phone. I also have a problem with charging batteries. I'd toss my MP3 player in my gym bag and forget to recharge the batteries, so when I went to the gym, duh, the batteries are dead.
I've always used flash-based players with a maximum of 256MB of memory. All my friends (who, by the way, didn't have MP3 players) told me that was completely inferior and pointless and that they needed to have their entire music collection on their hip at all times.
I use my MP3 player for background noise while exercising. Therefore, I need enough music on there that I can listen during workouts without getting sick of hearing the same stuff over and over again. I really don't want to thumb through songs in the midst of my workouts and I'm too disorganized to put together playlists, so I'm screwed there, too. :)
I live in the 'burbs, so I drive everywhere. Mirculously, my car contains a stereo of its own (with an MP3 CD player, of course), so I don't need to connect my MP3 player to it. At home I can play MP3s over the network on my 5.1 and I can get to them from my office over the good ole' Internet.
If I lived in a city and used public transportation, I might want something a little more iPod-esque. But for my particular circumstances, I like my little phone. :)
Not worht the hype.
Far superior and less expensive players on the market.
I got my girl one because she wanted an IPOD .It all called good marketing by Apple.
i got one and i love it.
I don't know how they do it...Originally Posted by alexgtp

Apple releases the Shuffle and everyone buys 2.
I think they are worth it.
Bought both my kids a Nano for Christmas. It beats buying a $15.00 cd that they want and they only like 2 or 3 songs on it. Now they can get the two or three songs for 99cents a song from Itunes.
There are also alot of free sites out there. But as we all know you need to be careful what we download.
I also have the Bose docking station for mine. So as its charging I can listen to it in my home and it sounds great.
You can also burn CDs of the favorites that you download. In the long run its cheaper and better.
There is no better player on the market with better features or a better interface when it comes to moving stuff on to it from your PC. The interface on the iPod itself is also far superior to any other MP3 player interface. Definitely worth it!
And, don't listen to anyone who says, "But mine has a radio..." The whole point of an mp3 player of course is that you never have to listen to morons jabber all day long and never play music.
Finally, if you want to utilize it for your car, no better set of accessories than those that come for the iPod.
Peace

I've got a shuffle and that thing is pretty cool surprisingly. You can plug it in and it fills up automatically with random songs from your collection, then you can play them in random order. Since I got it I've discovered songs I didn't even really know I had on my computer. Got the 1 GB version for under a hundred bucksOriginally Posted by SuperChuck

I've seen my music collection. I don't want anything randomly choosing songs from it. :)Originally Posted by WhiteWidow

I kind of miss my radio... My gym used an FM modulator for television audio, so I could listen to CNN or ESPN.Originally Posted by BigMacFU

I bought an Archos Mp3 FM recorder a couple of years ago because I am a musician, and must record myself many times a week to hear what I really sound like. I would by an Ipod except for the sole reason that it doesn't have a recording device in it. They seem to be durable enough to last a while, but I would rather go to a Nomad 60Gig recorder or a sony recorder. This is not just voice recording, they have a line in to plug microphones in for high quality recording. Besides, my car doesn't have a cd player, and I have genre turrets, so I probably need something that can carry my 30+ Gigs of music on it.

Ipod is still the way to go..... I bought one of the first ones (3rd Gen) 40 GB..... works awesome. You might want to save the disk space for more music instead of getting the one that plays video.... depends on how big your collection is.
Apple did have better marketing.... and now all the other companies are jumping on the "coat tails" of the Ipod craze and coming out with there own MP3 players..... where were they before the Ipod craze.
Isn't it also amazing how alot of the new MP3 players are "white"..... hhmmmm where did they get that idea...... Microsoft's X360 is also white..... could it be that they learned from a better marketing company.... Many more accesories available for the Ipod also.
I also believe that Apple itself is more user friendly.... no drivers to worry about so that means no conflicting drivers....
Another great marketing job by Macintosh. Now if only they could figure out how to sell computers...
I think there are better products on the market myself, but really what it all boils down to is personal opinion.

I like my IPod mini (4gb) a lot, shares a place in my heart with my PSP.
I thought it was a tampon joke!
I bought a dell dj for around 200. Mine holds 30 gig but they have a 1 gig , 15 gig or the 30 gig. Then i pay 15 a month for a service called rhapsody which allows me to transfer as much music legally as i want to my device. It doesn't work with all mp3 players though. rhapsody works great and has every band i have searched for except the beatles and led zepplin... which i barrowed cds from my friends.
I have a Shuffle and I really enjoy it. Got it from the wife for Valentine's Day and it is simple to use and great for when I go running or skiing.
I'd love to get the big Kahuna (60 gig), no need for the video feature as on the latest, but to be able to transfer the majority of my music from vehicle to vehicle without damaging or losing cd's would rule. Thumbs up.
