  1. Default First Time Tips?

Im going to be smoking my first cigar next weekend after finals are over. Ive heard that you cant smoke them like regular cigarettes. Ive read a few online articles about how to cut them light them, and then smoke them. I was wondering if i should know anything else. Any tips you guys want to give?

Do not inhale cigars.. or you will end up sounding like a 70 year old woman that has been smoking for 50 years.

I second that motion!! DO NOT INHALE! Might as well smoke a cigarette if you are going to inhale any of it... you'll live longer, and sound younger

Oh, and welcome to the board!!!!

Yes, do not inhale. You just want yo draw the smoke into your mouth, like sucking on a straw.
(If you smoke cigarettes, this may be easier said than done)

Find yourself a good cigar shop and ask for a suggestion. If you're a non-smoker, ask for something very mild. If you smoke cigarettes, ask for something on the medium side of mild.

They will cut your cigar for you, too, if you ask. You could probably even light it in the store if you like.

Don't worry too much about all the BS articles on how to properly smoke a cigar. (Just DO NOT inhale.) Learn how to properly cut a cigar from someone at your local smoke shop, and ask for advice. Cigar smoking should be at your own speed. Just relax and savor the flavor.

Single malt scotch to sip on while smoking. pour over ice swirl it around serve in a chilled glass. You will hear lots of suggestions to put beads in your humidor but beads on a string are for experts only.

I'm pretty new myself. Would recommend something in the mild range, Don Diego or Ashton (Macanudos are said to be mild, but not my cup of tea), and perhaps make sure you do not have an empty stomach, but keep the food on the light, nongreasy side. Your tobacconist can make some good recommendations as well. As the others have said, just enjoy it and don't worry about technique too much. I do find the experience greatly enhanced by exhaling through my nose -- much more taste can be appreciated.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
