Thread: Humidor Building Contest (free cigars to winner)

Default Humidor Building Contest (free cigars to winner)

I'v noticed we've got several craftsmen here on the forums, and for whatever reason I decided it would be fun if the forums held a humidor building contest, except with a little twist. It would have to be made out of stuff available at any hardware store- with a few exceptions. You dont have to be a master carpenter to enter, anything from a one off 15000 cigar humidor with built in robots and a personal midget that lights your cigar for you; to a glorified coolidor can be entered. The humidors will be judged by the forum in a poll to determin the winner, and each person that enters will send the winner four nice cigars to help fill his new humidor.

    The Rules:

    1) Humidor must be built out of things available at any hardware store. The exception- you may perchase spanish cedar to line it or build trays with, but the main structure must be made of things baught at your common hardware store. Humidification device does not apply to this rule either.

    2) Humidor can be of any size.

    3) There is no limit to the mount of money you can spend, nor is their a minimum you have to spend, but keep track because I would like everyone to post how much they have spent.

    4) The humidor needs to be built by you. You may have help, but the majority must be done by you.

    5) You must take a few pictures- raw materials, progress, and finished pictures.

    6) Once contest has ended you will send the winner four nice sticks (atleast $5 value each).

    7) Contest will conclude Feb. 28, 2006. This gives you two months.

The humidors will be judged by the forum on looks, fuctionality, uniqueness.

Gentelmen, start your building. If you are going to participate please post your name here. I would like atleast 4 people to participate, but the more the better.

I think it is a really good idea. I could design one, but unfortunately I have neither the talent or the equipment to actually build one. Still, it is something I would like to try. I am trying to see if I can figure out a way to do it before I put my name in the hat.

Come on now, anyone can glue some shelves inside of a tupperware container and call it a humidor, or carve a box out of a wet sack of concreete. Most places will precut everything for you for free if you ask.

Yeah but from my experience designing/building car stereos, they aren't terribly accurate. Not around here anyway.

This would probably be a pretty cool deal, but starting it right at the end of the holidays is not such a great time. Start it up in February or even wait till spring.

This does sound interesting....I would be up for it, but I am stuck in Afghanistan.

I deffinately will be watching to see if this gets off of the ground, who knows, I might even be able to get involved while I am here...could be fun.
