How do I cut a Torpedo?

Hi all this is my first post,and I am looking for help ;-).

How would I cut a Torpedo cigar ? And where would I cut ?

I found that its easier to draw when you dont cut too deep in, but not too close to the tip eiter. Depending the size, i usualy cut about halfway.

wow that was fast.
So when you mean - half way - you are refering to 1/2 way on the "prymand". right?
I used a v-cutter- it made to small of an opening. It was hard to draw. then i used a guillotine cutter and cut off the whole pryamand - guess i cut off too much

I try to cut torp's to about the same size as a cigarette tip. I've never used a V-cut before though, just a double guillotine.

I am not a big fan of the V-cut, especially on Torpedos....

I would start off at about 1/4 inch and cut off more if you need it..... you can always cut more if needed but ya can't put more back on if ya cut off too much

good stuff . thanks for the info. I bought the v-cutter on a whim. I was ordering some cigar and needed them overnighted. since I was paying the overnight shipping charge, I figured the cutter would not have costed me that much more- since shipping was $20.
so what type of cigar would people use a v-cutter on ?

i usually cut between a quarter inch and a half inch on a torp.....

some people like v-cuts....only to be used on a round...i don't think you get as much flavor with a v-cut or a punch cut....i do use a punch once in a great while...not even sure why..

People generally use v cutters on larger ring (48 and higher) cigars. I personally don't like a v-cut at all but that's just me.

As far as cutting a torpedo, you've already received some great advice. I use a punch cutter on my cigars but NOT on a torpedo. For those I use a guillotine and cut it half way down. I rarely ever smoke torpedos.....

how do you cut a torpedo with a v-cutter ? my v-cutter makes a tiny opening. The Topedo I cut wuth it was a 50 gauge. the opening was so small i was only able to get a little flow going. Do some v-cutter cut a bigger opening then others?

By the time I get done smoking a torp I've cut it at least three times.

I usually divide the head into 3rds and cut 1/3 every 20 minutes or so depending on the length of the stick. I actually prefer torps in this way as you get to eliminate the "buildup" by cutting it off.

Kingpin is correct. Cut off enough to get a good draw, but not so much that you can't make a couple of recuts. To save some space, use your cutter at an angle to get a larger opening without going further up the stick.

I figured v-cuts are not for me.

Use a large guillotine (open-ended, not one of those that have a backing and limit how much you can cut off the cigar) and angle it while you cut, so you're cutting on an angle. Try to cut only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the end, no more. The angled cut always gives me a good draw.
