    Default Cigar Gauges

    Hey guys,

What do you all think is the easiest way to determine cigar gauges when buying/smoking?

    Cheers, Will

Take a look at this guide I wrote a little while back: http://www.cigarhandbook.com/RingGuide.asp

(If anyone has any suggestions on improving it, let me know)

My lips are calibrated for accurate ring-guage measurement..... (or... Words you never thought you'd see yourself write in a public forum.)

Seriously, I rely on various web-sites that have the posted length and ring-guage for a particular brand of cigar. I also use a ring-guage guide (similar to hex's very fine guide) that I got off another website. The problem is that it isn't always easy to tell which circle the cigar fits in. I have taken cigars that I know what the ring guage is and they are smaller or larger than what the guide shows. I'd say it's a ballpark estimate using the guide.

The sizes on the guide would change depending on the size of your monitor and what resolution its set at. If it was a print-out, like a pdf file then you could use that. Might be cool to have that along with some examples of common vitolas.

Cigar Aficionado gave out some nifty gauge measurers with last months issue. They are cardboard with a ruler on one side and gauges in the middle- each even size cut through. If you cannot get your hands on one, let me know, and I will see if I can scrounge one up from my shop owner.

This site has a guide that prints up nicely:

It is the PDF file at the bottom of the page.
