Leather Cigar Case Question

I got one of these when I got my humidor. First time I used it was Wednesday. I put 2 sticks in it before I left for work at 7:30 AM and when I opened it up for the first smoke at 1:30, it was so freekin dry I didn't even try the second one.

Do these things have to be seasoned like a humi?? Are there any special storage tips I CAN'T FIND IN MY SEARCHES??

Keep in mind the RH in my house is like mid-40's.

a leather case is not a humidor..it does not neede to be seasoned..it is merely to hold cigars so they don't get damaged.....your cigar was too dry when you put it in the case....

I know it isn't intended to keep them from drying out for long periods of time, but my humi is steady at ~68% and those smokes had been in there for a week!! (yes, I did the salt test). I took out a fresh one when I got home and it smoked fine.

Six hours out of a humi, even left in dry exposed air, will not make a cigar unsmokeably (made up word) dry. Did you leave the said leather case on your dashboard in 100 degree plus weather?

I can only wish that were the case. It's supposed to friggin snow here tonight!!

The temps that day were in the high 40's to low 50's, and the case was in my golf bag in the Jeep.

I keep my leather, 3 finger cigar case in my humidor. Leather does hold a certain amount of humidity and putting a cigar in a dry leather cigar case will, in my opinion, suck some moisture out of your cigars. No need to season it. Just keep it in your humi I use my case every night and I can keep it out for hours without the cigars drying out. Then when I get home I put the case, and any cigars left in it right back in the humi.

You forget, we live in the great white north We are lucky to get 100 degree weather once or twice a year. And with us being from Alberta there is NO humidity(hardly even any bodys of water or lakes or rivers), so actually 6 hours sitting in the exposed air will make it dry enough to start peeling and cracking. I've seen it The only time we have humidity is while it's raining, heh...

I keep my leather cases in one of my coolers when they're not in use. It's pretty dry here most of the year too and if you're not careful the wrapper on a smoke can dry out pretty quickly, causing it to split while smoking.

All that said, an Otter Box is the best way to carry cigars, hands down, IMO

Just my 2 cents worth but you might want to look at the Xikar travel cases. It holds 3 churchill sized cigars, has a cedar lining and very strudy construction. I picked mine up on Ebay for a good price. I usually will throw 2 sticks in it and a tube of humidity beads and it is good for days.
