    Default Wanted to introduce myself

[SIZE=7]Just found this site and must warn everyone that Im a noobie. While Ive been a smoker for years my experience with cigars is limited to the occasional one while golfing. Im looking forward to learning from everyone here and am sure I will have many a question to post.

Initially I am getting singles from a few local shops so I dont have a stockpile to be concerned about. Currently I am using a sealed glass jar with a ClimaGuard in it but would eventually like to get a humidor. Ive already read that the opinion here is that Thompson cigars are over rated and over priced but what does everyone think of thier humidors? Im not wild about not being able to put my hands on it before purchasing. Also, what about those humidors with glass covers? I was under the impression that light is not good for the cigars. Im looking for something decent without breaking the bank...perhaps I should be patient and keep checking cigarbid.com. Any particular name brands I should look for?

Thanks in advance and I told you Id have alot of stupid questions.

I bought a humidor with a glass lid when I was getting into cigars and a couple months later I found myself buying one without a glass lid. It was slightly larger too. I sold the glass lid one to a friend telling him I wanted a larger humidor. I didn't like the glass lid because I don't know how well sealed it is, being a cheap humidor. And they put so little spanish cedar in them anyways I thought the added cedar lining of the lid might help some...... And the light affecting my cigars plus the added temp change from the glass lid... My advice, stay away from the glass lid unless you are planning on selling cigars from your home:) hehehe

Welcome to the forum! I currently own a nice (can be read as "cheap") cherrywood finish 50 stick humidor that I purchased at my local smoke shop. It was inexpensive but nicely built and works great. I am getting ready to shop around for a larger humidor, and then use this one to keep at work, but the point is i guess that this one was relatively inexpensive and very functional. Personally I agree with Roham about the glass top humidors, but I have heard that as long as you very careful in regulating it you should have no problems.

It's hard to judge some of these humidors without seeing them in person...I kind of shy away from it, since I have two well stocked tobacco shops with a wide variety in stock in several price ranges, I will most likely buy from them even tho I will more than likely pay a little more. Personally I like being able to see it up close before buying something like this. Just my opinion though....

Once again, welcome...post often, we'd love to here from you.

And when I was shopping for my bigger humidor I looked closely at it and the lid has a lip that snugs it closed, well the lip was warped, like a bow. It stilled opened and closed fine cause it bowed to the inside but I have to question buying cheapy humidors from the net, as even a simple mistake like that would go unnoticed, or be unchangeable after you recieve it. I asked him to pull the next one out of storage and saw that all 4 lips on the lid were nice and straight:)
