Thread: New box in plastic....how to care?

  1. Default New box in plastic....how to care?

I just got a new box of Hemingway Best Sellers from Holts in the mail and it's sealed in plastic right now (cedar box shrinkwrapped). Because I am waiting for my twin boys to be born in about 3-4 weeks, should I:

    1. Unwrap it from the pastic and put the cedar box in my humidor
    2. Keep it in the plastic and put the entire package in my humidor
    3. Keep it in the plastic and out of the humidor

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Wasn't sure of the best way to care for them since the box is tightly sealed and thought maybe I shouldn't mess with it.

put it in your humi, wrapped or unwrapped doesn't really matter.

No way man...I have heard these are great though. Have you had them? I really want to try a reserva shark no.77 but even if you can find them they're $30 a pop. I got this box of best sellers (25) for $130 which I thought was a good deal.

Those are in my top favorites. I put mine in the coolidor, left it wrapped. They were in there about 4 months - no idea how old they were before. I've smoked 1/3 of them and about every 4th one has visible plume. Pretty sweet. You may know this already, but it was packed with a humidifier packet in it. So, unwrapping it really isn't necessary. Congrats on the pregnant with twins.

The Best Sellers are fantastic, and, like Basil said, are even better with age...the only problem is actually sitting on them when they give you those "please smoke me" puppy dog eyes every time you open your humidor.

And congrats on the twins! I sure am glad it's you and not me though!

    ....snip
Put 'em on the bottom. That's what I do with my ISOMs because they give me the same look!

I'm not trying to steal this thread, but have a related question. I got a bundle of cohibas (thanks hex) still wrapped, how long will they stay good out of a humidor?? (my humi was supposed to be sent a week before they were ordered, so I thought I would have time to set up the humi, and I still havent gotten it yet ).

A one month old girl and twins in 3-4 weeks??? Are you human or rabbit? Am I misreading here?

    Kraft-
Get a tupperware, small cooler, or big ass ziploc and put the cohibas in with something to help them maintain humidity until your humidor arrives and is properly seasoned (use the search button on this one, lots of handy hints).

I thought the same thing. Maybe the twin boys kicked the girl out early. Eitherway you will need some smokes and some good whiskey handy.

OK, let me qualify. If you are going to smoke them over the next few months, unwrap them so they can uniformly stabilize. If you’re going to store them for 5+ years or something like that then you can leave them wrapped. MRN has some theory about air circulation and the aging of cigars that basically says cigars with limited airflow will age better. I've even seen some guys break it out with some kind of math/chemistry formula.

I’ve never had enough money or patients to try it out.
    Captain, it is I!
