You need to carry a double barrel shotgun, side by side, over-under, it don't matter, and at least a .38 at all times, the .38 ready to go and the shotgun under the mattress.
BTW, do not drive into NYC with a truck, you're just asking for a headache, not only traffic wise, but the risk of being knocked over in the Bronx and havin' your goods stolen. Stick to upstate if you ever make it out here.
Never trucked myself, but have worked 2 summers with a trucker and the stories are scary as heck.
