Default Noob from NC saying hello....

Didn't know the proper forum to post this, but here it goes...
I'm 28, live in NC, & am new to cigar smoking. Recently took a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with the wife, & bought a few Montecristo Whites. While smoking those I started my typical internet research on my new obsession, then took a trip to my local tobacconist, & wandered around in his humidor for a while picking out a few mild bodied cigars. Montesino Diplomatico, Punch Gran Cru, Macanudo Gold Label, La Tradicion Cabinet Series (medium bodied), to name a few. Just bought a cheap humidor from Tampa Humidor, lets hope it works out.

I guess that's it. I just thought I would introduce myself before I started taking part in the community, & trying to learn the proper way to enjoy a fine cigar.

welcome to the board. Here are the quick answers to questions you'll have, searches you won't make, and a way of avoiding anyone else saying use the search:

    1) Buy beads to regulate humidity from heartfelt industries, 65% beads. Only use distilled water.
    2) It doesn't matter if you leave the cellophane on or off a cigar in a humidor.
    3) Macanudo's in general are regarded as bland wastes of money. And don't spend $10 on a cigar until you've decided you really do enjoy cigars and then get a Diamond Crown Maximus, Arturo Fuente Hemindway series, Opus X or Padron Anniversary.
    4) For just starting out, stick to milder smokes, go to a local Brick and Mortar (B&M) shop and talk to the guy there, tell you are new and want to start off a little milder, but not bland like a Macanudo.
    5) Don't spend much on cigars when you start, stick with cigars that are in the 3-5 dollar range, if you want to splurge go ahead, but just make sure your palette can appreciate it. Some great brands to start out with are Punch (I love the Champions), Romeo y Julieta, Joya de Nicaragua (strong, not mild), Carlos Torano, Gran Habano (Green), etc...
    6) A great place to buy cigars is camino viejo, you'll see a banner ad at the top of the screen for it.
    7) Punch, cut, it doesn't matter, try 'em all out till you find what you like.
    8) Finally, stick around, utilize the search

Any chance you can send me some pulled pork and have it arrive steamin' with goodness, same goes for some biscuits and gravy?

    Thanks for the welcome guys.

BigMacFU, I really appreciate the advise. I have a few other money robbing obsessions in my life, including fast cars (currently own a highly modified '00 Corvette), & college basketball (HUGE DUKE fan). I'm a member of various forums, & know a vast amount of info can be obtained via a well thought out search/s. Actually made 3-4 searchs before I posted.

As far as the food request, I wish I could. Damn, I hungry now, thanks.

    Welcome from Utah.

I am surprised BPP did not jump your shit over the Macanudo Gold reference. You should probably consider that your "Get Out of Jail Free Card".

Just so you know: Friends don't let friends smoke Macanudos.

Holy crap, I didn't even notice! Nice catch, SLC.

    UPDATE!!!

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke basketball star J.J. Redick was arrested early Tuesday on charges of drunken driving, another blow to a school shaken by a lacrosse scandal.

Redick, The Associated Press Player of the Year, also was charged with unlawful use of highways for making an illegal U-turn.

Welcome! Remember, ask dumb questions to other noobs with less than 400 or so post. We will be a lot easier on you because we most likely just learned the question you were going to ask too.
