    Default Trojan Horse virus

Anyone know how to get rid of it? My computer is infected and my anti-virus software can't clean it or quarantine it.

can you tell us which specific virus you have?

once you know that then usually there is a cleaning tool for that specific virus, but we cant get ya that tool with out the name...

also do you have your virus scanner fully updated? that can help a ton!

Trojan.Domcom, ipreg32.dll are the two names the virus scan refers to as I assume the type of virus it is. Don't know if that helps. And yeah, the software is updated, but just installed yesterday. The virus has been on the computer for several days. It is my work computer and I was under the assumption that it was protected, but obviously it wasn't. So the software should prevent further viruses from getting in, but this one was already there and it (software) can't remove it. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info.

I'm not finding a cleaner right off the bat... i'll look more later when im not getting ready for a party/dinner

if its a work computer you should be able to talk to the tech about it and have him deal with it...

I work for a small department and there is no tech person. We are kinda our own tech person. I can have someone come in and take care of this, but thought if there was a not too difficult way to do it myself, I would just go that route to save some time.

    Puff,

I always "google" the exact name of the virus, then I read through all the different posts, to find out how to get rid of it. It has never failed me. Good luck.

Try looking on Symantec's website for the trojan horse you are looking for. They usually have free cleanup tools.

Just to let everyone know what has happened, went to Symantec's website and they did infact have info on my virus. I followed the instructions exactly as they had posted on the site and it froze my computer. Basicly the computer had to be wiped clean and everything re-installed. What a PITA, but atleast it is working and I didn't loose anything important.

Many times that's the easiest solution. Some of the real insidious one's do stuff like modify your host's file with a bunch of bogus name resolutions for anti-virus and adware removal sites. That way, you can't even go to the sites to download the tools! My son got some nasty adware loaded on our PC, and I havn't go it cleaned yet. I estimate a few good hours of work to fix it. Hell, it's almost easier to just reload it from scratch!

    Oh wow.
    Sucks.

Wish i would of read this sooner.

    VEry easy solution.

This is a backdoor type pest. Usually called spyware..not really a virus..

It loads a stupid ipreg32.dll DLL file.

Next time download adware SE 6.o and run this in conjunction with your virus software.

    ALways boot to safe mode..
run virus scan and than the adware in safe mode you will be allowed to remove most of the problematic BOGUS/corrupt files.

You can also use the system restore feature if you are using XP

Try the free AVG anti virus software at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1, that removes Tojans and xoftspy at http://xoftspy.com/
