Thread: How long to age mail order?

Default How long to age mail order?

    NO not a bride!
I tried a search but found very little on the subject.

How long do you like to let your cigars rest in your humidor after receiving them via mail?

I'm not talking about aging some special smokes for a year or more but just a 5 pack or box.

What would you consider the shortest amount of time before sampling one?

What would you consider a normal time for the rest of the shipment?

    Thanks

Depends on a bunch of stuff IMHO.

Did they come by road from Canada in the dead of winter?

Did they come by road from southern Texan in late July?

Were they air mailed from the next state in nice spring weather??

Basically, as a rule, I let 'em all sit and rest for a week. But yesterday I opened a pack I got and sparked one right away, and it was awesome.

I try and let them sit around a week if I bought them from a retailer... If I make a purchase from another BOTL I will smoke them right away if I want to. The reason I let them sit is to let the settle as close as possible to my RH....

Unless it is something I am excited about getting..... then, fuck it, I just smoke it.
I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

Every time I have ordered from JR's I have to let them set a minimum of a week, sometimes longer. They ship their smokes very "wet" in my experience.

As you have heard, it all depends on the cigar itself. If it's wetter than you normally like, let it sit, if it's dryer, same, if its the way you like it, smoke up.

Hell, if I really want one, I'll spark it up straight from the box! If they've been packaged and handled well and the ship time is three days or so, they should be OK.

I've had some shipments that show up and some of the cigars are cracking. When it's dry enough to damage the cigars I'll let them sit for a month before I think about smoking one. But like others said, sometimes I spark them right away, if they feel fresh. Or generally speaking I'll let them sit for a week.
