    Works like a charm.

Well, I've done everything that every guide has said to do. I've even forwarded the port on my router, and I think I've got Norton and Windows Firewall set up correctly. When I try to connect, it finds the computer but says it can connect to it. That's as far as I can get.

    Default Try Google

Google for free remote desktop applicaton. You'd get one that meets your need. I've tried https://www.logmein.com/ and its ok for me . hope I helped.

  6. Default Vnc

I agree with BigMacFU, VNC is a good product and its free.

Since I have Windows XP Home Edition (which does NOT allow you to use Remote Desktop with it), VNC was the next best alternative. Easy to setup and serves its purpose well.

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Remote Desktop for the above stated reason. Judging by your symptoms, it sounds like you're running into a Security/Firewall issue. You may want to try and google a FAQ or Troubleshooting guide in regards to Remote Desktop if you still wish to purse it v.s. VNC.

I'm assuming you already went to the "remote" tab in system properties and checked the box allowing users to connect to the computer?

Ya I ended up using RealVNC. Everyone I've consulted basically agrees the windows version is crap, especially for home use. Got VNC to work perfectly, though. Thanks guys.
