Hello everyone. I am a beginning Cigar smoker. My recently deceased grandfather smoked cigars for most of his life and left behind his hobby of Opera Music and Cigar smoking to me. He was a big fan of Dominican cigars and thats pretty much the only kind i've had experience with. I was wondering what are some brands of cigars you all are familiar with and recommend.I'm looking to branch out into other kinds of cigars. I'd like to spend under 10 dollars per cigar the the moment. One day i'm sure i'll move up, but i'd like to be able to appreciate the difference when that time comes.

Welcome to the board. I'm sure you'll find your stay informative and enjoyable.

As for smokes from the DR, there are plenty of good ones, but don't limit yourself to anything from this country only.

My favourites from the DR are: anything Fuente, Ashton VSG, and Carlos Torano. Your tastes will vary and you should try anything you can.

There are a lot of decent cigars in the $3-$10 range actually except the premiumones all of them are. Stay around and you will get a chance to hear many opinions on what people like.

Give the following a shot

padron 2000, 3000.
Carlos Torano
Sancho Panza Double Maduro

Best bet is go into a local cigar shop. Pick one with a walk in humidor that makes selling cigars the majority of the biz, not just a magazine shop with a humi.

Ask the folks working there and tell them you want to stay under 5 bucks, Try these and then move to 8 bucks, then 10 and so on.

Welcome Ryan!! With cigars, the only advice as a noob that I can give you is always try new things in life and especially with cigars. A great cigar IMHO as well as a highly rated cigar that is very cheap but not Dominican is the El Rey Del Mundo (ERDM). Give them a try and see if you like them, also Padrons seem to be popular and I love A.F. Hemmingway series so far. Have fun and welcome!
