AVO 80th anniversary

Just had my first one of these last night. Was so impressed I decided to review.

FIrst, this is one beauty of a cigar. Very elegant band, gorgeous wrapper and I love the shape.

Lit very well (using a Davidoff match, no less). The first inch or so was not impressive, but by the beginning of the second inch a crescendo was beginning to build. As I smoked it down, I started to feel the strength of the cigar and sweat started to break out on my forehead (Ok that may have been the Balvenie Doublewood scotch, I admit).

About halfway down I detected my first hint of a spicy, peppery taste. By the time I got down to the last 1/3, it was a fantastically rich and pleasing spicy, peppery taste. By now, I was really sweating it out, but I nubbed it nonetheless.

I plan on buying at least five more of these and placing those babies in the humidor I use for aging. I bet in six months, they'll have toned down a bit and go from fantastic to out of this world. One of the finest smokes I have ever had, really.

The ash is very tight, sign of a great construction. I tried to tap off the first inch and gave up. Finally when it got down to about 1.5 inches a tap took it off, but had to tap several times. Draw is great throughout the smoking experience.

I love these,they should age well in spite of what so many others believe.
I have a box in a shops ageing room waiting for my purchase. :)

Your review could describe every AVO I have ever smoked. They all seem to start off a little unimpressive but become a tasty smoke I hate to put out. The maduros seem to start out with a little more taste if you get your hands on them.

As well received as the 100th Zino has been the 80th AVO has been left behind. And I consider it a pretty great smoke. (coming from a 4 year novice) I think as far AVO cigars go this has been one of the best I have smoked.

I am curious what others here think of the 80th compared to the 05 and LE22 as I dont have too much experiance with those,but most on some other boards believe the 80th was the lesser of the 3 in quality and taste.

I wasn't impressed at all with the 80th I've smoked a few, and they just seem average to me. Not up to anniversary standards in my opinion... The box is nice though...

I still like the LE05 the best - and haven't had a 22 yet. The LE05's rock, as bluesman says, and I think they may be marginally better than the 80th. To me, the interesting thing about the 80th is - it is definitely a strong cigar as far as strength, but I think it's a medium bodied cigar. Usually those two go hand in hand, but clearly this is MUCH different...

A great cigar, no doubt!!
