    Default Who Loves Football ???

Football season is around the corner. Are there people who love the game enough to play fantasy football with cigars as being the prize.

Yahoo provides these games for free and its very easy to set everything up and play. I have done this for years.

They have 4 different football games

    1) fantasy football : everyone drafts players from the same pool and picks which players play what week> Players get you points and the system has you play different teams on the league each week. Then we are ranked just as the regular football teams are with playoffs at the end.

    2) Salary cap fotball: You get a certain amount of money and you have to buy players with it. PLayers get you points and their values change depending on that weeks performance.

    3) Elimination football: Each week you pick a team that you believe will win no spread simply win a game. If your team looses you are out. People are eliminated that way until only one person is left.

    4) pick them football: each week you make pcks on who wins and looses the games, no spreads just pure picks. Each crrect pick gets you a point and at the end of the season those with highest number of points win.

Games are very easy to play if you know football.

I want to gage the interest in this so lets see who wants to play and what game.

here is the link to yahoo websie where you can get more info on the games.

Why not just do a pool?

Weekly winners get a prize, and more prizes with increased value/size can be won for best regular season pick record, playoff record and SB.

    Just a thought.

I think what you are saying is very similar to the Yahoo Pick them option. It is just easier to keep score with yahoo since they already have evrything set up.

Check it out from the link I have posted to see if it is similar to what you say. Prizes and stuff can be figured out no problem. Lets just see how many people we can get to play.

I'm a fan of the straight-up head to head fantasy football game, no salary version. We did this last year with guys from Snobs, here and Pass, Ray (Gran Cru No. 2) set up the league (he's a little before your time on the boards, he's got a lot going on in his life right now and so hasn't been on much at all). It was a lot of fun. We played for ISOM's. The entry fee was 45 bucks. I think if we do it, we definitely should make it less expensive. It was so expensive because 1, 2, 3 places got boxes of ISOMs while Top overall record got premium domestics (collection, not a box).

If we were to limit the prize to 1, 2, 3 and make it 12 cigars, 8 cigars, 5 cigars we could get a real nice box of ISOM's for 200 (20 bucks a person in a 12 person league). With the extra 40 you buy a fiver of something for the top overall record.

The most important thing though is to not set a draft day until 1 week before the season actually starts. If you draft earlier, all pre-season injuries have too big an effect.

We should also do some kind of customized scoring rules so it's a little different than the regular leagues. You know, add receptions as a point or some other defensive categories.

    Great idea Dan!

Any way it's played it sounds like fun, count me in.

I like BMF's ISOM deal. Did you have weekly winners, or only season?

With a private league, you can do custom scoring for the league, also allows for custom positions, so you could have a slot that is RB/WR or two defenses playing each week.

As for prizes, they were an end of season thing. The way Yahoo head-to-head works is that you have a "regular season" then the last 3 weeks of the real NFL regular season are the Fantasy league's play-offs. Those play-offs determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd place. But since the top regular season team could still place 4th or lower, they still get a prize for having enduring the first 14 weeks and coming out on top.

Weekly prizes would get to expensive I think and be too much of a hassle for the organizer.

Since this is your thing Dan, you may want to post the 12 slots in the very first post and update it as people join.

I love the game, but my knowledge of it limits me to cheering for the Lions.

I'd love to get in on this! Fantasy leagues are always more fun if you know who you're playing against.
