    Default Ashstand contest (shamelessly "borrowed")

Well, I guess it is time for me to have another contest.

    The prize will consist of:

    1 Opus X (size TBD)
    1 RyJ Coronas
    1 Partagas PCE
    a handful of my "dailys"

I borrowed this idea from another board. I hope they don't mind

    The rules are as follows:

    1) The stick must have been smoked between Aug. 1/06 and Sept. 30/06.
    2) The stick must be free-standing on the ash with no support or assist, other than he ash itself.
    3) Your favorite lighter must be present in the picture.
    4) The top 5 will be determined by me and then voted on by the memebers of this site.
    5) The poll will run from Oct.1/06-Oct.7/06 and the winner will be announced shortly therafter.
    6) Any other rules decided by me will be implemented as I see fit. I make the final judgement .
    7) Have FUN!

Here is my first entry. Although it would be disqualified for not including my favorite lighter .

    Great contest Drew.

Announcing the contest early will give us plenty of time to practice .

are we looking for fully smoked, as your's is, or should there just be a good few inches of ash?

Creativity is key. Obviously though, the longer ashes will look more impressive.

I had a CAO Italia to a little over 3 inches. I was about ready to snap a test pick when I got the urge to sneeze. I tried to brace myself with no luck. I had fun trying though.

Im gonna give it my best. To be fair if this little newb wins i will be paying for postage to Oz. Its too windy here at the mooment. Infact, im waiting for the pager to go off, and go racing to the big red fire truck, so I wont be trying for a week or two

    Good luck all

Hi Friends! Beware, I may be a newbie, but if creativity is the key to the ashstand, I might have a good shot at this. Pix to follow soon!

I am no cigar construction or physics expert, but it seems the squared ash from a box pressed cigar would have slightly better chances of standing than the round ash. As far as balance goes, that's my guess anyway...

nice first try Brian but I don't think this is a contest unless you get the ash at least up to the band

Yea that was just an attempt wasn't really meaning to enter that.
I just happened to try it with that amount of ash and when it stood I snapped a few shots of it.
The ash usually falls off by itself when it gets long, I can't stand to hold it up in the air when I puff to keep it from falling.

    That's why its a contest

Most cigars wont hold an ash longer than 3 inches; so far some of the ones that I saw do pretty well are Anejo, Padrons, and come Opus X

And those who do get the long ash to stay on the cigar amoke it a certain way for the ash to form nicely

Looks good for a first try.

Some smoke hold their ash very well. That Padron in the first post was smoke normally, and when it was about half done, I started thinking about doing an ash stand.

    Keep those pics coming people
