    Default Dominican Identification Help

Hi All. Forum newbie with a quick question. My brother recently returned from a Dominican vacation and brought me a couple boxes of discount cigars. They aren't the Partagas I usually smoke, but they're absolutely not bad at all. I like the taste and enjoy smoking them, but I can't identify them.

I'm not sure of the policy for posting photos here, so I'll describe the bands and hope that someone will recognize what I have here.

The first is a robusto that carries a red band with gold edges, that simple says "Santo Domingo Cigars" in white lettering. The second is also a robusto, and has a white band with gold edges. There's a green oval in the middle of the band, with a large gold "D". The gold lettering says "Domingo" above the oval, and "RV Cigar Center" below it.

I'm sure these are house brands. They smoke quite nicely, however, holding good ash, burning evenly, good draw, not at all hot... just a good all around smoke. My curiosity is mainly as to who makes them, etc.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide on these cigars!

I was in Santo Domingo last week. While the capital city is not in the Tobacco region of the island, there are many small shops that have their own mini cigar factories. The cigars could have come from one of those shops. (I'm guessing here)

Go ahead and post the pictures, we have no problem with photographs that are in good taste.

Thanks for the quick response, folks. I've included the pics of the two bands.

I've been smoking cigars for about a year. I'm just a "weekend" type, really. I have spent some time experimenting with different brands, finding out what I like and don't like. I've pretty much settled in on Partagas Black Bravos for my "usual" smoke. I also like the La Gloria Cubana Serie R #4s. If I could find them and they wouldn't bankrupt me, I actually found the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Between The Lines to be a very nice smoke. Otherwise, I'm still learning.

These two from the Dominican are quite nice, actually. The Domingo is similar to the Partagas, but with a good deal less character. The Santo Domingo has almost a pipe tobacco flavor to it. I'm certain it's not a flavored or scented cigar, but it does come across almost like, say, Borkum Riff. It's one of the few I can actually smell as I smoke it.

Anyway, as stated, here are the band pics, if they are much help (and if I uploaded them correctly). Thanks again!
