    Default Radioshack Digital Hygrometer

I just made a coolidor and want to be able to monitor the humidity with in it, but with out opening it up. So after doing a little looking around I found that radioshack has what I'm looking for. the only question I have is which of the two units are better. I've looked and found stores near by me that have them, but unfortunitly not both in the same one. Hopefully I can get some opinions from the FOGs and coolidor'ers out here. Its a toss up between the 1032

    and the 1089:

    Any thoughts, guys?

Thanks Juan!! I've been considering one of these but hadn't a clue where to get 'em. There's a Radio Shack right next to the B&M I go to in Detroit so I'll be having one of those Saturday when I go. Be interesting to do the salt test with just the probe in the baggie!!

I couldn't find it on the website but get the one with the lowest margin of error.

That being said, opening the cooler to check the humi also allows for air flow/fresh air. Your cigars will benefit from this, and so then will you. You don't want to seal them up so tight that the air gets stale.

I read some reviews on these a while back. I seem to remember they were notoriously inaccurate.

When putting cigars in an airtight container like a coolidor you definately want to open the lid every so often. Cigars give off ammonia as they age and you need to exchange the air occasionally. Opening the lid every few weeks to check the humidity level isn't going to hurt the cigars at all. Besides, you ain't gonna be able to resist opening it up and looking in every once in a while.

So after calling Radioshack, it appears that the 1089 is being discontinued. The 1032 is replacing the 1089. So, I'm going to pick up the 1032 and check that bad boy out. Plus, it has 3 great reviews. Dowside, it doesn't tell me if its wireless, though for an indoor/outdoor one would assume that you're not going to drill through a wall for a sensor. Also the 1032 keeps track of the high and low for humidity and temp!

If you click Tech Specs tab on that site, under General Features the Product Type shows as Wired...

It is NOT wireless like the soon to be discontinued model. I have the older which is wireless and I love. I was lucky enough to have a Radio shack near me to pick and choose the wireless sensors to be within closer range of the correct humidy. Some were of by 5% but I returned them and now have a 1% and 3% variance on each one. The main unit is of by 2.5%

I'll stop by a 'shack after work and check this one out. I just hope I get a good one, with the 1089 getting phased out, I dont know if they will let me take it back if the variance is big.
I know that beads will keep humidiy fine, but I like to see the humidity disply just for comfort.

After doing a second salt test this week, the hygrometer actually hit 75%, but I was pretty fed up and having a difficult time trusting this guy. So I returned it this weekend and will get one of the recommended hygrometers that y'all told me about. Thanks for all the input and advice.
