    When/Where/How/Why?

My grandfather and his father both had cigar factories in Cuba. When I was growing up, I remember going into my grandfather's shop on 7th Street in Miami, Florida, and watching his employees make cigars. Basically cigars have been in my family for generations, it was natural for me to pick up smoking and later open up my own cigar store.

Do any of you guys have any stories on your first cigar smoking experience(s)?

My first exprience was with a buddy of mine who bought a box of Don Tomas and sat me down with a bottle of Single Barrel Jack. Needless to say I was hooked since.

My first was during a weeks vacation at Half Moon Bay in Jamaica. We spent the day driving to Ocho Rios. While there I bought one of those "too good to be true" boxes of Monte #2 for my friends and me. I now realize that I got taken on the box, but who cares. They were good at the time and got me hooked.

i was in 2000 stationed with the danish army i Kosovo, and we had a weekend where we could travel to a holiday area south of macedonia (FYROM) and when we go there, i bought a Jack D. and some unknown cigar (can't remember) and the nice clerk told me how to cut, light and enjoy.. later that night... With my trembling hands i lighted the cigar, and... HOOKED !! I normlly don't smoke cigarettes, but cigars... uhm !! So thats how i got hooked, when we were going home i had bought a victory cigar for when we landed i Denmark, and it name was cohiba, and it tasted sweet...

My best friend jamie and I had gone halfs on a box of Monte Cristo whites for graduation. That night, he stayed over my house, and around 3 am we went for a walk around the wooded area of my neigborhood, reflecting upon our highschool lives, puffing our montes as we did so. I still have 6 sticks left. every time him and I get together, we enjoy them together. Because of this, monte whites have become my favorite cigar for summer evenings.

Got hooked while smoking cigars in the Dominican Republic on
vacation. Cigars and Alcohol for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and
    all meals inbetween.

That represents how I felt one night after having too many cigars and too many drinks LOL.

I started around 14, swishers and such but then progressed through the years, thankfully!! One of my best memories was when I was seventeen and in London with my dad, We had picked up some Cuaba Divinos 4 x 43 perfecto at the Davidoff shop, this was my first Cuban experience, and had I been more educated on Cuban Cigars, would have chose something with a little less kick... About half way through I was sick to death, along with my father. We tried to keep up a conversation on cigars with a German fellow, who was telling us he doesn't really like cigars, but he likes his wifes reaction when he smokes them Meanwhile, I was hoping for a beer, but my Coke was fine with me. We sat there nausiated when out of nowhere my mom comes storming in the room. (We had to get up early the next day for a lot of site seeing and she was pretty pissed we were out so late.) So I was sick to my stomach and had to hide the cigar and pretend to be feeling alright. Since I was 18 and she was a stickler I would have been in a lot of trouble. That's it in short, I'm 25 now and Cigars are a close bond my father and I have, and I actually got him started in it!

When I was first married, when people asked me if I smoked, I said: "I only smoke Cuban cigars" (this was a joke, because they were illegal, I was saying I was a non-smoker).

After my wife and my 10 year anniversary, we cruised from San Juan PR to NYC. While on St. Maartens, I bought a 5 pack of Cuban cigars from one of the stores there, and smoked one a night on board ship.

    I was hooked.

When I was 16, I went to one of the few local Tobacco shops we have in the bay area with an 18 year old friend of mine. Funniest part was, they carded him and not me, and I was the underage one...

Anways, I became chatting buddies with the guys that owned the place, so they helped me learn a bunch about the whole cigar culture.

First cigar was a CAO Maduro Torpedo. I've been a Torpedo fan since, although I bought my first H.Upmann Churchill yesterday. My favorite is still the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos #2.......

I have probably smoked a dozen or so cigars in my 27 years alive. But they had always been smoked improperly or stored improperly. Not until a couple weeks ago, when my friend had a baby, did I try my first true, humidified Cuban. I enjoyed that smoke for much of the day. And with in a couple weeks I had quit smoking cigarettes and bought my own humidor Since then I have only tried a few different cigars maybe a half dozen times. I've been really enjoying the quintero's. Anyone have experience with these smokes?
