Thread: making my entrance

    Default making my entrance

hello all, after lurking for awhile i decided it was time to step up and introduce myself

my name is Michael and i'm 18 years old (from what i gather i'm quite a youngin for this forum)

i just recently got a popup from thompsoncigar and browsed their site for awhile and became extremely interested in this hobby/way of life.

i will admit i am a COMPLETE noob and my passed cigars are nothing more than swishers and phillies, i very much hope you guys can help me out on that haha.

i guess my very first question will be... where to start? i've been reading reviews and i just can't decide how to start my journy in the world of cigars. i know eventually i will need to get proper storage stuff, but i want to know what i like first... can anyone point me in the right direction towards good sampler deals that have good noob stuff? (keep in mind many internet cigar sites will not sell to <21... infact i think famous smoke is the only one i've seen so far.)

any help is greatly appreciated, i cannot wait to get started

Alright, someone else my age here, good to have ya. Cigarking.com sells to <21 and I've had good experiences with them. Some good milds I'd suggest starting off with are: Sancho Panza, CAO Gold or Brazilia, Casa Torano byCarlos Torano, and a Graycliff crystal to flush the swisher and philles out of your system.

Welcome to the board! Stick around and you will have fun, but you must also have one hell of a tough skin. Trust me!

it will cost you a girlfriend, a that nice smell that everyone use to compliment you about on your clothes because you bought those nice sheets that you throw in the dryer.

i don't know if you've heard or not, but most people here are sucked in by cigarbid.com. if you search around there, you can find some really good deals. ecspecially their 5-packs ... and boxes ... and samplers ... well, there's alot of good deals.

as fas as humidors, i think every one agrees that cubancrafters.com is an excellent choice. you can get a 100 ct for 50 bucks. Or, you do what I'm having to do know and buy a cooler and make a coolidor.

You also want to get the heartfelt beads. heartfeltindustries.com. these with keep your humidity perfect in whatever you decide to use.

    Welcome...

Just a note about cigarbid. It's easy to get sucked into a bidding war. Before you bid on anything check the prices for the sticks you are interested in at various sites. Then figure your maximum bid and stick to it. You can get some good deals there.

Welcome to the board!! My favorite light smokes are the Fonseca Series F and the Joya de Nicarauga Celebracion lines. Cigarbid is a great place to get cigars cheap, but make sure if a bidding war starts, drop out because there will always be other auctions going on where you can do better.

    again thanks for the welcomes

regarding cuban crafters humidors, would you advise getting one that comes with cigars? such as this one
    http://www.cubancrafters.com/products.php/item_id/331

i have a hard time assuming that the cigars what come with this humidor would have any good quality.. but being a noob it would be hard to pass up a deal like this... what do you think?

    thanks

well i can't look at your link because I'm at work. we have a filter. anyways, i ordered my humidor off this site and it came with a bundle of 15 Don Kiki Red and Green Labels. I tried one right off the bat and hated it. So i let them sit for a month, and now they're delicious. I will be buying another bundle soon, although I'm considering buying the brown label. I've heard good things. They are good, cheap everyday smokes.

this one comes with 3 bundles of 25, i'm assuming for 100 bucks they are all cheapies... would it be smarter to go for one with a smaller sample of cigars that would probably be better quality?

FYI...the JdN celebracion and fonseca serie F are NOT mild smokes...very tasty..but NOT mild...

from the SAG catalog....serie F...medium to full bodied...
    ..................................JdN celebracion...medium to full

I'd go with the bundles + humi. While soon you'll have all kinds of killer smokes filling that humi (especially if you stick around here), it'll be easier to maintain a constant humidity if your humi has more than a dozen sticks rolling around in the bottom.

Plus, even if the bundles aren't the best quality, their great for when you're out raking the lawn or for passing out to your "non-smoking" buddies at poker parties, etc. No use wasting a top shelf cigar on a guy that can't tell the difference between a Monte No 2 and a Marlboro Light.
