    Default Lest We Forget

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day in Canada, same reason to Remember as Veteran's Day in the US, and Armistice Day elsewhere, and so on, just a different title.

So many young people don't know the significance of the Day (read the words to "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" for those of you who don't know it by heart & word for word) and it's sad the lack of respect even some adults have for the day.

THIS video of an Eastern Canada musician basically shows / tells it all.

On the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month, Remember, please, and wear the Poppy to show people YOU know why.

God Bless all who served, and those serving right now.

    Flanders Fields:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    Wear the poppy.
    Observe the silence.
Remember those who came before us and gave us the chance to be who we are.
I thought it was a tampon joke!

Very thoughtful post Jim. I didn't even realize Saturday was Remembrance / Veterans Day. Thank you. I'll be sure to pick out a nice long smoke for this evening.

    Yeah, nice post.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." -unknown

I just wanted to say thanks to all the vets! American, Canadian, and otherwise. And I wanted to say to my many family members that serve and have served I'm thinking of you all. To bad they don't smoke cigars. Thanks for a great post Newfie! I hope you don't mind if I say a special thanks to my gradfather.

He's been gone a few years, and although he never got paid for his services (long family story) He served his country.

Everyone out there that serves or has family that serves is in my thoughts. I have over 50 in my family that have either served or are serving.

I'd say "God Bless", but I don't want to get into a religious debate. So just take that last thought as a it was meant, A hope that each and everyone of our family members and friends come home safe.
